Actually David Stern and the NBA were technically owners of the New Orleans Hornets (Pelicans) which is why he blocked Chris Paul (still on the Hornets) to the Lakers because he felt they didn't get a good enough package in return or something like that. The Clippers weren't even in the picture at the time until after the trade was blocked. New Orleans got a better deal since the pick the Clippers sent turned into Anthony Davis. So in retrospect Chris Paul for basically Anthony Davis was a much better deal than what the Lakers were going to send.
