This is a certainly a heart breaking site. Treasure Cay was the first place my wife and I spent a lot of time in here in 1985 . We flew here in my plane which was my first over the ocean adventure and had been there many times after. I wish there was something I could help rebuild there but at 84 I'm not in too good of a shape to do that.

I will be sharing this video with my family. Thank you very much. This made me feel closer to my home. Growing up in Abaco, I had many friends like you, from Canada and the United States. Because of such friends I had countless opportunities to explore and appreciate my home, including my wonderful trips from Marsh Harbour to Treasure Cay, as well as other gems on the Island. People just like you gave my brother and I a gift we could not have afforded. Unlike so many of our friends we did get to see much of the island, thanks to the many American tourist that took us along with their children. I can't thank you enough. Now that I live in the US, it is the very friendships that I had with visiting Americans that influences my appreciation of this Great country, so much so I became a Bahamian American last year, making my affiliation with both countries official/legal. May you and your family be greatly blessed! Many thanks.

Thank you for the kind words Win! I always find it truly unique how well the US landowners and the locals mix in the Abacos. I have many Bahamian friends who are essentially family. They come with us everywhere over there, they help me on the boat, and, most importantly, they welcome me to their home islands with open arms. I travel to pretty much every part of the Bahamas and the level of this dynamic is truly unique to the Abacos I feel. It is why my family chose to buy a place in Treasure! Send me an email and we will have to try to get together at some point to meet and swap some stories!

A very good and thoughtful video. Surprised and happy I found it. I was in Treasure Cay when Dorian hit. When we emerged from shelter and saw the destruction, it was unbelievable. Thank you for making the video and channel.

Great job Nick. We had the unfortunate experience of trying to evacuate an ill man out during the eye to a second story condo at Bahamas Beach Club because of the surge. Got stuck and rode it out in a car for 17 hours with 4 adults, a four year old boy and 3 Potcakes. We were lucky to survive, and has luck would have it, it was probably fortunate we didn’t make it to our second floor unit.

My wife and I went to help to the survivors send to Nassau, last october. They showed us how to face much a huge situation. Era really learned from that persons. Some of them even could laugh, even when they had lost everything, but their family were ok. A lot of respect. God bless Bahamas, bahamians, haitians, and all the people that suffered Dorian. I noticed that those houses built within a three years’ period did exceptionally well. Hurricane Category Building codes for the islands and main land have been updated to the highest level for a reason. It might cost more to bring it to those new standards, but the results such as a hurricane like Dorian are worst the expense. I was interested in viewing your video as I watched Bahama Life on T.V. as a couple made a purchase in Treasure Island. It looked like paradise. Your video is truly amiable and informative to those who have lived there, have property, and spend many of wonderful years enjoying it. Nicely done. My very best to all in the islands. May it return to its natural beauty for all who have been blessed to live there and have the opportunity to visit.

I wonder how many people that come to the islands help those that are less fortunate rebuild their little places. They're usually the ones that provide services for us to enjoy when we come.

Hi Nick, thank you so much for a great job filming this video. We have been going to Treasure Key for many years, sometimes as many as 8 trips a year flying in to Treasure Key. Airport on a private plane. We would stay at a few different places, mostly at the marina village. We know Avis the manager very well and have on idea how they are, or even if they made it thru the storm. I can’t imagine how much damage there is and how on earth they will ever rebuild without a lot of help. I love Treasure more than any other place I’ve ever been to. Again, that’s you. Tearful but SO grateful to view your video and hear you wonderful narrative. Thank you! After Floyd, I happily purchased and resided in a gorgeous home for 12 years on Joe's Creek/Turtle Rocks beachfront which Dorian completely blew away, leaving only a concrete slab. Remaining in my heart and soul are the fondest of memories of Treasure Cay and all of its outlying areas, the gentle goodness of its people, the sheer beauty of its spectacular paradise. Can you possibly tell me if Ossie Davis is still around? His boat, Prozac? Are he and his family well? There was a special, hard working Haitian who I was very fond of and with whom I would love to make contact. Very tall and dark with an amazing smile, his name was Pearson and lived in the condos where Bootle meets the entrance to Treasure. He worked in and around the Beach Club and marina area. I have been making donations toward this most noble cause and will continue to do so. Bless you for your time and effort.

Thank you for taking the time to document all of this.....this is the first time i've searched for videos of the destruction caused by Dorian. I spent most of my childhood vacations there so this is also very emotional for me as well. If you have any more videos of the historic district, specifically the old hotel and the adjacent beach bungaloes,..... myself and family would very much appreciate seeing them......is Captain Mark still around?.....i was around there shortly after Martha passed and NOBODY was allowed to sit at her seat at the Marina bar :). Is there any need for employees for reconstruction of the Cay that are skilled but live in the US??? I'm looking for a big change and would definetly consider moving to treasure cay to help continuing to rebuild if i knew i could afford a place to stay. I'm skilled in all aspects of carpentry, fine carpentry, concrete work, and landscape design and installation.....i would just need a place i can afford to live with possibly a place for my family to stay once in a while..... again. thank you for your documentary.....i've already shared it with my m&d. I'm sure they would love to see it one last time.....my phone is 862-216-7757 and my email is phdr383@gmail.com.... best of luck to you and your family's home.

I personally am not coordinating any deliveries but I can put you in touch with someone who can help. I will say though that there is not really many people left there so there are only certain supplies that will be of use.

There was no electricity the last time I was there. While there are places that are habitable now, it would not be very good living conditions. The easiest way would be to anchor out on a boat and live aboard.

Treasure Cay is not an Island - it is on the mainland of Great Abaco.

Treasure has been a home to me since I was born... I am well aware of what and where Treasure Cay is. The places geographical properties have nothing to do with the story I am attempting to tell. For some peoples? Yes. For mine? No? For all practical purposes and for ease of talking about the area it can be called an island.

@@theolindeboys8312 Treasure Cay is not home to you - Mommy and Daddy own property there that's all. You say you are well aware where Treasure Cay is, but call it an island? Facts do matter you pathetic little boy, even if they don't fit the little story you want to sell. Grow up fool...

So the house I grew up in isn’t my home since my parents owned it and not me? Makes sense to me. Let’s just forget about the fact that I live there for several months out of the year and actually work there. And yes, I work there because I am a grown man who works and makes a living. Not a little boy. I am done arguing with you because you clearly you have some agenda. Everyone is here enjoying the video and finding it helpful and then there is you choosing to argue for no reason. Simply do not watch the video or any of our future ones if you don’t like them.
