Thanks so much for the video. So far you are the only one that I have seen that shows the maintenance. I hope to have the mini by September of 2017.

My RT-680 is also 4 years old but yours looks a lot better than mine. I live in Santa Fe, NM and our spring winds are legendary. Also in my first year cooking food for 100 people I had a grease fire start so the lid is not red anymore. After that fire, I now foil after every cook. Even if it is on the same day. When I have my big 100 people event each year I foil the unit 3 time over a period of 24 hours. Lot of work but better safe than sorry.

yep i try to explain that to all new owners. new foil every time will save you a lot of headache.

I use the green scrub side of the sponge, just wet it and it works great. Recteq is the only way to go. Customer service second to none

I do the same thing to my Rec-Tec mini. Mine was delivered late June of 2016 and I was cleaning mine every cook and now I do every two cooks. If I do a Brisket I will clean it. One of the guys at work asked me how you clean it and I told him my Shop Vac. They were like WTF man how you clean a pit with a Vacuum cleaner. I had to explain it to them and now 3 of my co-workers own one now. Since I took delivery of my 380 mini as of today I have burned 200 lbs of pellet fuel. Oh by the way at 11:00 I do not do that.

I have a 1994 webber gas grill that is cleaner than that thing. Do you not cover your $1200 grill? That can't look like that from heavy use. No way!

Just remember it will save alot of headaches by simple things like keep foil down and firing pod cleaned out. Change foil every 2 or 3 cooks. Dont keep it in there and forget about it. You will catch fire that way. Plus the foil will keep you from having to scrape that heat shield from build up.

You guys know they make a cover right?keep the dirt right off your grill?

water and soap will do it too.. I don't care how the outside looks along as the inside performs

So Micheal, I am looking at a pellet fired smoker, Rec Tec over Traeger?
@MichaelWayne877 жыл бұрын
Yes by far Rec Tec beats out Treager. the 10 gauge steel compared to the flimsy steel Treager uses. The customer service is #1 on the market.

Scott N. Don’t know if you have pulled the trigger but go for the Rec Tec. I did over a year of research, visited stores and looked at reviews,blogs,etc. Went with Rec Tec mini and love it especially with just two of us home

yours is about as old as mine. take off the vent cap and scrape inside the chimney stack with a flat head screw driver. I got almost 2 cups of creosote out of it...

Why would your ignitor Rod be wearing out/I thought they were made out of ceramic
@MichaelWayne876 жыл бұрын
Super020469 not cleaning out the fire pod from all the dust and burn up from the pellets will cause it to burn up trying to reheat new pellets if you let all that burn off build up!
@Super0204696 жыл бұрын
Michael Wayne how often are you supposed to clean it out or how many hours of cook time
@MichaelWayne876 жыл бұрын
Super020469 I noticed I could go 2 or 3 regular cooks before I needed to clean it out! I would clean it after a really long smoke. I've learned to get the maximum life out of a firing rod would be best to clean it every cook! That's what I used to do. But now I don't use a firing rod at all anymore! I use a lighter and a torch!

Michael Wayne I called the guy from Rec Tec and he told me the ceramic igniter Rod is supposed to last 100,000 hours/I guess he was bending the truth/thanks for your reply and have a great weekend

Wow, the red paint looks so Oxidized and dull as compared to other videos. Is that what I would expect?
@MichaelWayne877 жыл бұрын
No i have had my Rec Tec for about 4 years now with hundreds of cooks in and the this is not one of the new lids. The new lids are 10 gauge baked-on porcelain enamel lids. So they shine more, plus I live in Oklahoma City were the wind NEVER stops and dust and dirt is always blowing up and sticking to it.
@MichaelWayne877 жыл бұрын
Cant go wrong with a Rec Tec no matter what it looks like. The 6 year warranty covers EVERYTHING. Even after your warranty is up they will still help you out.

Lava lock that lid!
@gpsbackyardbbq37336 жыл бұрын
I don't foil anymore I find it much faster and cleaner to just use a 6" steel putty knife, heat the Rec up and scrape it off into the grease trap . Takes all of 2 mins

Clean the damn thing every once in a while and cover it up...Geez
