Do you know what i like about this channel? We are not just going over the basics ad infinitum. All the different variations are explored. Some of the shelters are nothing but a bit of fun while others really make me sit up and take notes. I've been practising bushcraft for over 20 years and i thought i had seen everything that youtube had to offer but this channel is not only fun and not serious but it has genuinely inspired some of my own ideas and I have stolen a few of the Cpl's too. I am so grateful for this but also for the down to earth style and lack of stupid youtube click bait. Thanks Cpl Kelly.

in the winter , my dad would have an old steel 5 gal. bucket, he would put some hot rocks in it and put it in our tent. it worked great. just rotate fire rocks part way through the night, so the tent would stay warm. he kept it up off the floor with a few sticks.

Possible tip for your coffee setup (which I like): pour the grounds directly into your water transferring vessel to mix and steep the grounds with the water. After a few minutes immersed, use the pop up filter in the same way to transfer the coffee water to your drinking vessel slowly but surely. This will give you a stronger coffee with a more effective use of your coffee grounds. 🙏🏼✌🏼

I think the best heating design, I have seen so far, was in one of those primitive living videos. They built a shelter (took the time to bake clay tiles, if you can believe it), and made the shelter from them, on a basic wood frame. What impressed me about the heating system was, they build a small chimney at one end of the shelter. Dug a trench (similar to what was done here), through the shelter, up to the chimney. Covered the trench, with large flat rocks and them covered them with dirt. At the open end they built the fire. The heat was sucked into the trench and fed out of the chimney. Kind of a large rocket stove, and the heat radiated out of the trench to keep the shelter warm. Hopefully this might give you an idea, for a future shelter. I like what you did here and what you are planning to do next. I would love to see you go to Everest. However, if you go to the base, would you be able to live with yourself, for not trying to get to the top? They'd be dragging me off the mountain kicking and screaming, if I didn't at least try,

@@prepertruckin8525 i dont think you would have to do that much yes the branches would have to be cleaned up a bit but i think it would be more than normal the difference is you would need more branches to make it rigid enough to hold up to wind/ just to hold it together

I love this shelter and setup as you said I would like to see the trench inside longer and filled with coals then the rocks on top of those coals. Block both ends one with a wood wall covered in clay and the other with a wood door covered with clay. Then use a thermometer and see how warm it gets and how warm it stays overnight. Another great video my friend!

Got a suggestion for the thermal mass Corporal . Use your rocks as a base /platform under your fire . Light your fire. Get it Roaring. Let it "simmer down" , until it's ready to cook your goodies ( on top / or in ) . Feast on your meal. Transfer rocks to the channel in shelter. Just a thought . Cheers from Australia mate . C.A.F

This may be my favorite shelter config I've seen you do yet! Outstanding AF! If you were going to use it for any length of time, you could add any number of improvements to it too. A raised platform to sleep on, so you can get up off the ground, add a back wall, even a front wall on one side. As you mentioned, lengthen the pit. You could lift the panels temporarily and build a fire right in the pit in order to build a good deep bed of coals. If you built the raised bed you could put hot rocks underneath you. Just so many possibilities! I really like it, and may just build one in the woods I frequent for a longer term camp, and play around with various options. Great option for cold weather camping.

LMAO I get what your saying and agree to a point. Those Hollyweirdos are sometimes ridiculously funny and actually make me feel better about who I've become. But your right about Corps content, It's relaxing, educational, funny and overall a great watch. I'm very surprised he hasn't hit 1mill subs based on many of the others I see out there.

I agree with you. However, with me I t’s less a question of it stressing me out, as it is that it angers me. At one time (say, back in the 50s-70s) the movies and shows were more idealized. I get it, no one’s family is as perfect as the ones in Mayberry and all men aren’t hero’s like John Wayne. But what we have now are depictions of the worse side of humanity. I don’t see that as an improvement. On the other hand, maybe it helps the really broken individuals feel better about themselves. I know that in spite of it’s political correct tendencies, I can find a lot more enjoyable things to watch on KZbin than on TV. And what is more amazing, it’s put together by non “professionals” like the Corporal. Carry on Trooper!!

Nothing strange about it. Hollyweird is scum. They are totally disconnected from decency, reality, and are nothing to do with me. I'm 80 years old and just got online savvy about two years ago. Lots of interesting stuff to watch, especially since I don't watch the garbage on T.V. anymore.

I understand your goal of Everest. I'm currently working to get in shape to hike to the top of Mt Fuji. We all need our personal goals in life. Outstanding.

73 years old now, watching you I am reliving my pre- and early - teen years when I enjoyed doing what you now do. Never as sophisticated as the Cpl.

Everest IS the goal. Kudos to you sir. I've done some seriously minor stuff. Enjoyed it mostly, but live today for you young guys bombing it. Do it Jarhead.

I don't know if you're going to get this but an idea to help with your channel try showing people what they can eat out in the woods besides bringing along food even if you have to show a picture on your channel like for instance what bark they can eat and what plants are edible and what are not even if you do one per episode just an idea

I hear ya. I always bring my Trangia storm kitchen which comes with a kettle so that would be perfect with this filter. Who know? It might be a Christmas gift for myself this year
