I remember doing this as kids. We dug a hooch for a fort. Our parents found out and made us fill it in. We used brick pallets for the roof then piled dirt and grass on top . You would not believe how fast the vegetation grew back over the top. After a while you could barely tell where it was at. We would sneak cigarettes and a beer here there. Oh and don't forget the leatherneck and other mags our big bros had. Lol

You could definitely turn this into a dugout shelter with wooden floor, wall, roof, a wood burning stove for winter and to cook on. Cover outside of rood and exterior walls with tarp and back fill will soil or clay used to dig the hole. Could make a whole series on how you created and started a grenade shelter and turned into an underground dung out! Have seen on other channels but if anyone can do it, the American corporal can!

This reminds me of when I was in seventh and eight grade in Tampa and was experiencing yearly bouts of tonsillitis. At that time I was down with another infection and given antibiotics to eliminate it. Was supposed to relax and I didn't. I went to the woods and dug a 4'x6'hole 4'deep added a trench 4'x2'x2' 6'long covered in wood and dirt from the hole leaving a 2'x2'trap door.

A Project-in-Progress! From primitive pit to Pleasure & Protection PLAZA! Good work, Corporal! I appreciate & enjoy ALL your videos, but this one is of particular interest. In 1953 our family moved to the outskirts of Birmingham, AL where the steel industry was at its height. Behind our modest little house were woods to be explored. Much to the delight of several 12-15 year old boys, there were not only abandoned Ore mines to explore, but there were Soil Sample PITS to be utilized. They were 3-4 ft wide; 6-7 ft long; & 5-6 ft deep. Using WW II machetes, we cut down 6-8 inch pine logs to cover our "Fort." However, there was a huge problem that made us afraid to stay in them: the area was infested with poisonous snakes. Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, & Cottonmouths. We were PROUD of our work, but never had enough courage to stay in them overnight; so we camped nearby using WWII Jungle Hammocks hung between trees we had not cut down. 'Blessings on you & yours from an 82 year old man with a kid's heart & explorer mind-set!

You are truely the hardest working Tuber. I really appreciate all that you teach and show, and in this case share.I was wondering why you chose to work so hard on this build, but self gratification, determination and longevity makes sense, again thanks for sharing. Glad you added the hook on the small forks, still waiting on weather or not you'll do a full set, fork, knife, spoon.. that being said...take some time for yourself and with your son. You work too hard, which we do when self employed, but don't forget the important stuff too. Take it from someone who has been there. Time I would kill for to get back

Have you ever tried building with Cob?? That will last for a hundred or more years if done right!!!!! - There are some Cob dwellings in areas of the world that have stood for several 1,000s years!!!! The most important part to maintain a cob building is maintaining the roof. If that's done properly the structure will go on and on. Amazing material to work with and you can make the walls as thick as you want so they're load bearing -Also, fireproof, termite proof, earthquake proof.... So many benefits! There is a book called "The Hand-Sculpted House" and another called "Building with Cob" that you may want to check out if this sounds cool and you want a step-by-step guide. - BTW awesome job on all the digging! You and I are the same age, and I'm sure you could out pace me digging most days! If there were any project I've watched you do lately, this is the one that really deserves the "OUTSTANDING AF !" complement if based on pure effort alone. I look forward to your next video - Great work!!!!!!!!
