A rock went through the belt on the way home from the dealership,was told it was a maintenance item by the dealer,call BRP and got the same answer,so at less than 75 miles i had to buy a belt for my brand new Spyder,it lasted 800 miles,then it quit on me and towed it home and traded it,all in the first 1500 miles lol.Buying from the right dealer is everything.

We just bought a 2021 Spyder RT used. 7K on it, no big deal. Usually my wife rides it, but I had it out for a couple hours, cruising on a good road, around 45mph, easy, smooth, and it... JUST.. died. I actually had to coast to the side of the 2 lane road in traffic. Now, I, and the past owner knew of battery issues. I have a USB aux battery in the frunk that stays charged. By the time I got it out and to the battery cover Torx bolts, which I had nothing for, I tried to start it again after about 5 min. and surprise, it started. Suffice to say, I went directly home. Now, I did notice the rear heated seat was on, which I have to chalk up to my foot or something hitting it getting on or off. Maybe that had been on long enough to kill it while riding, but that brings up the issue of, well, if having a heated seat on kills it, kinda defeats the purpose, no? I'm not sure what to do. We always have on a battery tender when not being ridden. It was at 1 bar when I got home. Mostly FYI for my Spyder friends to be aware and prepared. ☮
@CoachBob3 Жыл бұрын
Keep us updated on your mechanical woes!! I am very interested. You're absolutely right. The heated seat shouldn't do that. The battery could being getting ready to die on you. When mine went.. it just went. Hope everything gets sorted soon for you.

@@opichocal I'm so glad you haven't had any issues with your sprocket! I think it was just over $200 as I was also getting a new rear tire at the time. BRP is paying for it. How they are doing it is by reimbursing the dealers who then pass that on to the customers as a credit for parts or service.

Hi, I just wanted to post something today that happened to me. I was on my way to my part-time job and I was driving my RT which is a 2023. I was in the fast lane on I 80 when all of a sudden I lost power to my bike. Immediately after that, the brake red brake light came on , and my brake pedal went straight down. I was in the fast lane. You can only imagine how scared I was. I had nowhere to pull over except against the wall and there was very little room. My RT came to a complete stop then I restarted the RT and put it into first and thank God, the traffic allowed me to pull off of the freeway. I don’t know what’s wrong with the RT. All I know is I could only be in first gear. I drove in first gear to where a friend of mine works and it will be towed in to the shop. This has shaken my confidence in this product to the core. It’s brand new 3600 miles. All maintenance has been done. What happened? I don’t know. I’m thankful I’m alive. There was no warning signs that anything was wrong.
@CoachBob37 ай бұрын
The Spyder went into “limp mode”. The real question is why. Definitely take it into the dealer and let them check the fault codes. They should be able to tell exactly why this happened. There have been cases in which the speed sensor was bad or ABS issues or battery fault codes. Again, they should be able to determine the problem quickly. I am sure that was darn scary and I would be upset and shaken as well. I am glad you’re ok. Please let me know the outcome of all of this. I am very interested.

Hey Bob. I'm a first time viewer of your channel and I love your sincere honesty about the Spyder. I have owed 2 Spyders, a 2009 RS and a 2011 RTS manual transmission and still have it. I really like the design and comfort of my RTS. I take care of my Spyder, I get all the services and maintenance done at the dealer I bought it from. The mechanic is BRP trained and has caught some minor issues before they turned into problems. He also informed me that my Spyder is famous for throwing out codes so don't freak out when you see one. He explained to me, if you see a code watch temp, oil pressure and listen for any odd sounds. Most cases for the codes are minor and you can bring it in and we can deal with it. He made it clear, if it goes into limp mode, pull over as there is most likely a major issue. I've never had it go into limp mode as of yet. The RTS is now 11 years old and still looks great and run great. To give you an idea how I ride it, now don't laugh but I have never spun the back tire. I believe this is adding to it's performance over time. Anyway, love the info and yes, I did subscribe and I will review some of the old content to see what I can learn. Take care and Happy 4th of July to you from your neighbour to the north, Alberta Canada.

I got the bike at Mountain Motorsports i was somewhat upset but is you say things happen give them a chance to make things right, Just so happened it was a wheel center BRP approved the fix everything is good kudos to Mountain Motorsports they even wash my bick, Keep up the good work I love watching your videso I have learned a lot from you. My Ryker Rally died 10 minutes off the lot!! Didn't even make it home. It just shut off while going about 50mph. Left me stranded on the side of the road. It took them 15 days to fix the issue. They replaced the entire wiring harness. It blew the f7 fuse, I replaced it and it blew it again. So the wiring harness was damaged from the factory. The dealer showed me the wire. It had wires exposed. Not sure how but that is concerning to say the least that from the factory the wire was defective!! Just putting it out there. It's a brand new 22. But it seems to be working fine now that they fixed it.

I recently had a suspension fault code come up on the dash on my original Sea To Sky. It turned out to be a failed compressor in the rear air suspension - fortunately just under warranty since the part alone costs over NZ$1,000! As an "ambassador", you might want to suggest politely if you get the chance that a 2 year warranty on a motorbike that costs as much as many cars that have (at least) 3 year warranties is a bit cheap. I know in the USA and Canada you can extend the warranty. Here in New Zealand, Can Am do not offer that unfortunately. I did have a recall issue on mine - it was a spring or something in the brake light actuator. As per your commenter who claimed Spyders are slow, all I can say is that mine is more than fast enough for mortal riding! I can break the speed limits no problem at all if I wanted to do so.

I honestly believe a great number of issues people encounter are simply a lack of preventative maintenance. Of course, there's always going to be those incidences out there: bad engine assembly, extreme weather conditions, etc. I 100% agree that BRP should immediately replace the entire bike when a catastrophic engine failure occurs within the first couple of hundred miles. How you treat the customer is the difference between being a standard business and a great business. And, in all honesty, BRP has a long ways to go especially in the technician knowledge and service arena. Lucky for them, they make an awesome product.

"The Smoaksvlog" on KZbin addresses the very problem. They have come out with a better "sproket." He (Certified BRP, BMW, a few others) goes into length of how BRP has addressed the situation. HE DID NOT say that it was all taken care of in the supply chain. If people will just go in and listen to his explanation, I'm sure that he gave a couple of solutions, just being proactive. It was something "2020" I believe. I don't own a any type of bike but I am looking into buying one.

It should not take two months to get parts (transmission control module). My 2021 RT has been in the shop now for 7 months waiting for parts. I have had the bike in the shop several times for transmission issues. I just replied that with the economic situation we find ourselves in at this moment, there has never been a better time to sell a Spyder. Life is too short to live with something you are not happy with. Sell it now and get a premium price, there are thousands of people that would beg you to take there money, and get your dream bike and love life brother! But it wasn't just me. Let the haters hate. I've noticed that many of the people who look down on Spyders and Rykers don't really know what they're talking about, probably because they've never actually owned or ridden one. And to the guy who was complaining that his Spyder was so terrible, so slow, blah blah... Wouldn't he have noticed the sluggishness of the Spyder when he test-rode it? Since he still bought it, he has no right to complain! Bottom line is, some people will never be happy no matter what you or anyone else do for them.

Great info and presentation! On the BRP ambassador issue... I was approached by BRP when I first got my 2019 Ryker Rally due to the technical issues and failures that I was experiencing and posting on KZbin. I got the distinct impression that they didn't want bad press for the Ryker, so they wanted to make sure that I was happy. Unfortunately, it was just lip service without any follow through. They were fairly clear that I would need to keep any negative feedback to myself... wear a muzzle. Uh... no, thanks! 🤣👍 My Ryker is down again and sitting in the penalty box with a blown CVT at only 11.8K miles. BRP's BEST warranty won't cover the failure, so it's another $1400 out of my pocket. Ouch! 😒👎 I was considering upgrading to the 2022 Spyder F3-S, but this is making me reconsider due to the poor quality and warranty coverage. 🤔 Cheers! --QM

@frogmandave12 жыл бұрын
Great video Bob. Most generally I agree with your opinions, but, I am in disagreement with your opinion about the replacement engine. In my opinion I feel like BRP does not owe this owner a new Spyder. Stuff happens and stuff needs to be fixed but completely replacing the vehicle is not called for. Could you imagine if every car manufacturer had to replace every car that had a major problem? I think not. Now true, if it were a car there may be a loaner vehicle that could, and probably would be available. But, motorcycles are a different type of vehicle and loaners are not common if they ever happen at all. Keep up the good work sir. You are definitely a great credit to the Spyder community.
@clay18832 жыл бұрын
If you pay $30 K plus for a new vehicle and you have to replace the engine, you now have the reliability of a used vehicle. How about if you have a new $ 40K plus pick up and the dealer just wants to overhaul the engine in-house instead of a replacement? or how about just replacing the short block in-house? I have seen this happen. Not a good feeling for the consumer. BRP should take a lemon Spyder back and tear it down to find the problem so as to make a better machine for all it's customers. If you'll remember, GM took back thousands of Saturn cars and gave the owners new vehicles. The "Lemons" were crushed.
@MrNew1222 жыл бұрын
Well, despite the recall, at least BRP is dealing with it directly. Try getting action on a recall from Ford, Dodge, or a Chevy dealership. Even if you slap the recall notice right on the table, they will do everything in their power not to fix it, or deny your vehicle needs it!!

I asked the service manager if my Spyder is safe to ride. He said because of liability issues he can't advise me on that. I was hoping for some level of response so I know if I have a garage-bike or a rider. The service manager also said they will start calling owners next month to schedule bikes in for the interim repair (good). I informed him I have a long trip planned in late September with the Spyder. He assures me the permanent fix will be done by then. What are you or your channel followers hearing on these issues: safety of riding the Spyder, timing of the interim repair, and availability of the sprocket?

As far as safety. I am going to continue to ride mine. I don’t feel like it’s any less safe now than it was a week ago. That could be flawed thinking on my part though. 😉😂😂😂 If the sprocket fails, the spider just won’t go. That could be bad if I was on the interstate. But, for me it’s a risk I am willing to assume. Most of the people that I have spoken to are holding the same position. Again, I’m not recommending it just sharing what I’m doing. The parts are supposed to be available the end of August. I am looking forward to getting it resolved that’s for sure. Thank you for watching. I appreciate your comment!👍👍👍

@@CoachBob3 thank you for your insight. When I get back home to Florida I plan to do local rides until I get the bike into the shop. I'm going to wait on a decision on the September long ride until I can talk to my service technician. Thanks for the advice Coach Bob . Bob Brown - FL

I was, a long time ago, was driving a $100,000 John Deere Combine and at 15 hours on the engine the engine seized. They had put the mains in upside down. I’ve been in the automotive industry all my life and can honestly state that engines fall for multiple reasons and coming off the assembly line. If it were widespread, the dealership’s would be steering you to a different bike. Thx for your efforts.

I can't see how mains would even fit "upside down".

@@clay1883 just the bearings so that the oil hole covered the port on the block casting that allowed oil into the mains.

Looks like these machines are crap, anybody that owns a canam spyder should look into another brand like a harley trike

Ride what you ride. No matter what anyone else thinks of your ride it's your ride. I ride a Street Glide but I have friends that ride spyders and other bikes. The only time I'll have something to say is if you're 300lbs riding a sportster. Then I'll say hey man get a bike that fits LOL.
