Russillo starts the pod by running through all 30 NBA teams and sharing his thoughts on their offseason so far (0:37). Then, Eagles tackle Lane Johnson comes on to discuss Nick Sirianni, what makes Jalen Hurts special, and his WrestleMania appearance (41:54). Finally, Life Advice and U.S. Soccer with Ceruti (1:07:37)! Is it weird to compliment another dude for non-traditional skills?

I’m glad Ryen does pods like this. So tired of hearing about the same 4-5 teams which only 1 or 2 are actually contenders. That being said, Memphis fucked up royally by not trading Smart and the 9th overall pick for a stretch 5 or another PF to play along side JJJ. Having Eady in the box while Ja is the PG makes NO SENSE. He’s a less experienced Steven Adams and they traded Adams bc he no longer fit in the starting lineup. Just a dumb decision.

The blazers know that as long as they have Deandre Ayton they will tank super well. So they can just stockpile assets, get high draft picks and when the time comes they will sell Ayton for a bag of chips. By that that time they will hopefully already have a decent amount of good young players. Blazers replace Ayton with a bag of chips and instantly get +15 wins.

@@cissem4025 I think they were honestly. Barnes got a lot of juice from being the 5th option on a 48 win team whereas Mobley shared credit with Allen for Cleveland's defense. Personally I thought Cade should have won ROY given that his role was so much more difficult. Mobley can definitely be a third option, especially since he will be in every action. He shot 58% last year and the passing continues to improve. If you look at the Boston series, you can see that he's capable of a lot more when given the chance. Barnes _has_ shown some intriguing growth on offense but he still profiles more as a very high end #3 option not a primary creator.

I think there are 2 issues: (1) even though we have great talent pool bc we're so damn big, our talent *pipeline* isn't as tight and is more leaky compared to Europe (obvious issue is that college sports seems to keep all of our Latino/as out of the pros!). (2) NFL and NBA are sports that revolve around absolutely freakish physical outliers, which makes scouting more simple - find the high school kid who is 6'3/250lb guy and put him on OL/DL, or 6'3/185lb and runs like the wind for football, for basketball it's just everyone at or above 6'0 and above (so 10% of population) ? But soccer doesn't revolve around (obvious) physical outliers as much, and bc we don't have as much of a history of elite soccer, the widespread, informal heuristics that we have for talent scouting aren't as well-developed as in Europe/LatAm/Africa.
@boing3887
@boing3887 3 ай бұрын
So something I've read is that the US soccer players playing in elite UEFA clubs tend to be fast attacking players, but we don't have as many of the physically unimpressive but super-skilled midfielders - like De Bruyne (though even De Bruyne isn't even all that slow - there are other examples of legendary Euro midfielders who're short and slow even by average person standards)

@PayDay4KZbin He was with the team for 2 giving them early bird rights. Bird rights are 3 consecutive years. Good chat about football at the end. The problem is definitely cultural, we've got a more advanced version of the same problem in England (even though we invented the sport lol). The other European powerhouses and South American nations in general have a much deeper understanding of the game on a technical and tactical level. These are people that are born with a ball at their feet, and play with an understanding of position and the principles of passing, movement, ball control from the very beginning. You guys will not have the coaching infrastructure for a very long time, it might be 2 generations away. We've completely reset how kids train in England, and it's why our team is so good now. However, as we can see at the Euros- the coaching is still awful. We may need to wait for the current generation of players to age into coaches to be able to really play at the level of Germany/France etc. You guys are several integral steps back. I play casually in London, and occasionally Americans pop up in our games. I hate to generalise, but it's shocking how poor their understanding of the game is. For people with the physical capabilities to play well, and in some cases even some technical ability, they can't see or make runs, don't know where to stand, how to communicate etc, etc. It feels the same watching the national team.

Ryen, you really need to dig deeper into the Isaac Contract, it was a very savvy move by the front office. It used up all the extra money this year to get over the floor. His salary also decreases a lot the next year, when we have to pay suggs, franz, and then paolo. There is also stuff put into the contract that the Magic can still get out or reduce the salary if he is hurt. It really is a genius contract by the Magic front office, but also allows the Magic's Senior player to be the highest paid player this year.
