I really love that you took a moment to acknowledge that on the whole, it wasn't the actors in these roles that made the villains fail. Cuz I get seriously irate when people start spouting off about how they didn't get the right people or that the actors were bad. No, actually, by and large they got exactly the right people. And hot take, but if someone thinks Christopher Eccleston is a bad actor then I refuse to take any of their opinions on acting ability seriously. They got some of the best actors in the business for those roles, and they fricking WORKED those roles to the best of their ability. Even Hugo Weaving, who I remember reading once that he said he didn't really enjoy playing Red Skull because it's not the sort of role that really excites him. And he STILL crushed it! I think if anything, Marvel counted far too much on those actors' sheer talent to make the roles work, and didn't take into account how much scripts and final cut editing can still tarnish even the most dedicated performances. That said, this was some pretty inspired af recasting. Gustaf Skarsgård as Malekith is just 😙👌, ESPECIALLY given what he brought with Floki in Vikings.

I luckily watched Doctor Who before Thor: Dark World, so I appreciated Malekith more than most, just because it was a Doctor. And I actually liked Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, it was pretty clearly the plot that made him forgettable, if anything

It's really sad that Marvel squandered his talent; what little of Malekith we *did* see from him, I really enjoyed. Shame we likely won't get any kind of a prequel type deal where he can really show us what he can do.

I can already think of a few casting ideas for the phase 4 characters: Imogen Poots - Yelena (I'd normally suggest Caity Lotz, but I thought I'd go with Imogen for Yelena. I think she could be just as good of a fit in the role as Florence Pugh currently is) Henry Golding - Shang-Chi Sarah Hyland - Kate Bishop Jenna Ortega - America Chavez China Anne McClain - Riri Williams

The only Bond villain I want to see redone is Scaramanga as I don't think the book or film really did justice to the idea of Bond vs the world's greatest assassin.

Tom Holland should get a crack at 007 when he's done as Peter Parker (he's British, and judging from red carpet photos, he looks pretty good in a tuxedo, both prerequisites for being Bond).

The worst part of Malekith in Thor DW: When thinking about, if they had kept his personality from the comics, where he is more a dark trickster, it would justify why Thor teams up with Loki to defeat him. After all, if Malekith is such as cunning manipulative villain, than who better to defeat him than another tickster villain like Loki? Personally for his fancast, I think it should be someone like Cameron Monaghan or Paul Dano, who can play smart, calculist psychopats.

Daniel Craig as Abomination was truly a surprise but not half bad of a choise. Dont know much about the character (like can he transform back to his human form like Hulk) but I'd definitely see a Marvel movie with Craig's Abomination in it for sure!

Since it seems that Marvel is setting up the Young Avengers, could you do a video casting them? I keep see the same people getting fan-casted for the role and would love to see what you would do!

Bryan's casting videos are spot on, no question. However fancasting is easier than doing it for real as you don't have to deal with studio politics, agents, managers, egos, scheduling, salary disputes and that one producer who really needs you to find a role for his girlfriend.

@@doctorvanya it’s so sad how Hollywood works. I really wish that filmmakers could go back to the time where they could find “unknowns” and build them up to be stars. We are seeing a bit it now with Rachel Zegler, Alana Haim, etc. Or just cast people who can truly fit the role regardless of name. That was a bit of a mess but I hope you get what I mean

@@pado_hyuck The problem is that it's a self perpetuating cycle. You take an unknown and build them up and before long they become the next 'star' and your back to square one. I think the greater problem is that stardom isn't proportional to talent. The people with the highest salaries aren't necessarily the most talented and they use they're influence to make themselves better rather than doing what the role requires or delivering the best performance.

Here's my choices. But just putting this out first, since Matt reeves Batman, was claimed to have a psychological horror vibe too it, so maybe for the villains, they should fit that tone. Now for villains: Mad Hatter: David Tennent (Jessica Jones S1) if they want an older version of the character or Seeker's original casting of Caleb Landry Jones. But aside from casting, I'd like to take a more kidnapper vibe with the character, since in the comics, he's known for mind controlling people, especially young girls, in order to make a perfect Alice for his "Wonderland" which kind of gives off pedophilia vibes. Clayface: I want to go with the Matt Hagen version of the character, similar to The Animated Series. For the role, I went with Dash Milok (Watch him in I Am Legend, where he plays Alpha Male; sure the CGI doesn't hold up but he does look unrecognizable in his role. Plus he's 6'3" and pretty built.). But I think Cayface should be a mix of CG but with practical effects, making him sort of like The Thing, or a more scary Ditto (Pokémon) or T-1000 (Terminator). Professor Pyg: I do think Seeker's choice of John Carroll Lynch is good so he can bring back those Twisty the Clown (AHS) scares again. But if need someone younger Jesse Plemons (I mean do you need to look further than Breaking Bad) or Jeremy Bobb (Jessica Jones S3). Man-Bat: If they can't get Doug Jones, I think David Howard Thornton (Art the Clown in Terrifier) or Javier Botet (Leper in IT (2017), Mama (2013), and Slender Man). Hugo Strange: If not for Jared Harris, maybe Jude Law. But would love for the character to have that feel from the Hannibal Lecter series of other villains. Ventriloquist/Scarface: Stanley Tucci (Watch him in The Lovely Bone) would be great. But I think with the character, (both Wesker and his dummy) should be every scary doll movie you remember watching, maybe give him Slappy the Dummy (Goosebumps) and Chucky terror to him. Poison Ivy: Either Jessie Buckley (Fargo S4) or Riley Keough (Girlfriend Experience, Devil All The Time, and Under the Silver Lake. But I'd like for Ivy and her plants to be similar to Audrey II (Little Shop of Horrors), with some jump-scares. Hush: Either Dan Stevens (The Guest and Legion) or Oliver Jackson Cohen (The Invisible Man and The Haunting (TV series)). Definitely can see this character appear in a 3rd Matt Reeves Batman movie where he and Riddler are controlling the villains.

The only thing I know Gustaf Skarsgård from is Merlin in Cursed. I only made it a few episodes into Cursed before I stopped watching it, but I did actually like his Merlin well enough. And I agree that he’d do great as Malekith. Also Daniel Craig isn’t the most obvious choice for Abomination, but I really like that one as well. Well done here.

I'll keep beating the drum for a Chronicles of Prydain movie series. You could just do a casting; but 'technically' you could use The Black Hackjob--I mean, Cauldron--as a spring board for recasting. Those books are really good, and I have NO IDEA why no one seems to want to make them into movies. (Side note: it's either unrelenting or relentless. Not unrelentless. That just means he is going to relent.)

@@tyleryates8508 The Chronicles of Prydain are a series of books by Lloyd Alexander that follow the journeys of Taran the Assistant Pig-Keeper in the land of Prydain. They're very good. The Black Cauldron is an animated movie made by Disney in the 1980s that VERY loosely (and poorly) condenses the entire narrative of said books into a short movie. Do not watch it until you have read the books. It will make you not want to watch the books. In fact, just don't watch it. Disney's treatment of this story was awful.
