Hi, I think the diamond was running too slow. I recently bought a diamond with chipbreaker and I will be running 80 diameter at 4000 rpm to get the suggested surface speed. All inall those inserts were great, I don't use Walter, but I will be trying the insert for steel that I used today and see how it works. Enjoyed the video, thanks for sending me here.

I am RPM limited so I have to live with whatever SFM I can get. The diamond worked well once I got deep enough, and even its "bad" chips are better that the spools of wire that come off of some other inserts I have tried. I have a boring job coming up. I have a solid carbide indexible 5/8" bar coming that will fit that diamond insert - I'm going to try both and see how they do. Thanks for dropping by, and feel free to visit the rest of the channel!

with CNMG aluminum inserts i can run DOC 0.2", 0.024"/rev feed, 1600 feet/min in EN AW6082 for all day, 26kW spinde on 70% on such small machines you should use 0.015"/rev minimum and small 0.02" DOC so your spindle and rigidity can run it - only way to break it

mate, at $15 an insert I can live with the stringy chips or use 2011 instead of 6061 🤪

Buy once cry once. A box of ten will last me for the rest of my life.

Recently bought a whole collection of expensive industrial quality drills ranging in 1-13mm diameter in 0.1mm steps and the regular sizes twice. One of the most expensive tool purchases ever for me, but SO WORTH IT. I swear, my intense fear of breaking a drill, stuck in a cast aluminium hole has dropped to 'lets go and hope it doesn't break." They ate through case hardening of a crankshaft, performed under high heat stainless steel drilling, and I swear, they eject swarf better, i think because the spirals (flutes?) Are such high quality (surface roughness) finish. I guess it's the same for inserts.

@@DC_DC_DC_DC with a lot of this hobby stuff, the trick is finding out what problems industry solved and how, and seeing if it can be leveraged. Some problems need big machines, 440V 3-phase power, thousands of square feet of shop space… and some need a box of inserts or some drill bits. Not every hobbyist problem can be solved economically by stealing from industry - but when they can be, it is nice!

@@FNR not sure if 2011 is suitable for your needs, I've not looked back since I started using it though I still have a lot of 6061 stock to use up. My 25c cheap and cheerful import inserts work great on it; not sure about you, but I end up chipping inserts from time to time so it'll be a lot of crying with $15 inserts.
