Thanks for this. I have watched this the past couple years and keep coming back to it. Now that I know somewhere near me that has scrap metal at a good price and I have some "in store credit" with them this may become a reality for my pretty quick.

Great build, Matthew. Enjoyed it. That compact folding design is ingenious; would fit in any ATV or road vehicle. The quality of your work is inspiring to this novice who still hasn't learned how to keep overhead light from streaming in the back of his helmet. If you can't see the puddle, you can't weld! Blessings and best of luck with your business.

that's really a very Kool lay out I once made a crane type thing that I tried putting to the hitch was not able to put the figures together right to make it fold up and stay out there on the bumper need I say a short story I was taking a motor out of a boat the thing was at 650lbs it held together there was lots of Metel fatigue do to it bouncing it broke lucky me the motor was on the ground all ready any hoo you rig folds I like it for a future crane build looks like it will be perfect for me to place on my pick up thank you

Nice design. I used one of those 4 wheeler winches from Harbor Freight so I can skin hogs, raccoons, deer using one hand and remote switch. You can always add the 12 volt motor to yours for under $40.00 when they are on sale. Makes pulling hides off easy. Let a winch do all the hard work. Thanks for sharing.

Great job brother. I'll be making mine later today, not as eccentric as yours with all the folding options, but mine will break down and have a footing for stability when in use. Keep up the great work. Frank

One neat deer hoist. It looks like a boat hoist to me so it should easily do 300 lb. Fun to watch the build, too. Good hunting.

I'm happy with it! It's definitely strong. I think if I added an outrigger, it could lift well over 500 lbs. If I added a swivel, I think it would lift 55 gallon barrels into the pickup. I'm looking forward to deer season this year. But I don't bow hunt, so I have to wait until December when rifle season starts.

I am not used to these Imperial units but a gallon of wateris about 8 pounds mass if I remember, So still about 500 lb. Here in Alaska hunting swason is on, so moose have wisely vanished (probably to Pierre's garage:)). If you bow-hunted you can get feral cattle anytime.

Definitely need a swivel on it. You'd be amazed at what you'll use it for. I have one that bought from a guy that it. I added a pipe and sleeve so it will swivel. Also put a sleeve on my trailer so I mount it on trailer to load and unload stuff or as a another place to skin a deer. Now I need to add an out-rigger to use it on my four wheeler.

Nice project, in order to save on amos, park the pick-up in the field, put a bait apple on a giant fishhook, there you get the deer without firing a single shot.... Guess it's kinda safe too.

Look ok but Instead of using pulleys, which are a stress point (yes they are, they are meant to relieve stress but they still are a stress point), you should have made it a boom lift. Makes it stronger and more modular. By having a pivot point where the boom and receiver tube meet, then have the winch closest to the truck it forms a triangle. This is much stronger. How does this make it more modular? Well you place the receiver tube on first, as you did, but then you are not having to lift the boom into place trying to balance it. (you could have just laid the end on the ground by the way) You just leave the top end on the ground, align pivot holes and insert the pivot pin. Attach the winch cable and raise the boom. Hook deer up and winch the boom up.

So the successful hunter must strap his prize to the vertical sections? Not a bad compromise instead of a rotating setup. Great work.

I guess I cut that out of the video, but if the winch is on the back side, the tail gate hits the winch when being opened and closed.

Are you using 3/16" or 11 gauge tubing? This is a great build!!
@WideVisionMetalFab
@WideVisionMetalFab 7 жыл бұрын
I believe 11 ga. It's been a while since I built this, having difficulty recalling. The 2" square piece that goes into the receiver hitch was thicker side wall. (At least a 1/4, maybe thicker) The customer was very happy with it, but said it needs to be able to swivel so the deer could be loaded into the pickup.

Along with anything else you might want to load into the pickup by yourself. Multi-use is always a bonus.

@WideVisionMetalFab
@WideVisionMetalFab 8 жыл бұрын
There's some great can crushers on Instructables.com. My favorite ones use 2 rotating tires to smash them. I'm not sure if that would work for water bottles though.

The one I built in this video was for a hunting guide. He says it works great, and lifts many deer every season. My new version swivels at the bottom so the animal can be set into the pickup bed. I've only sold a couple of them, and haven't had any feedback yet. There will be a video on the new model in the next couple months... hopefully!

I now have a new version for sale that swivels at the bottom so the deer can be placed in the bed of the pickup, and it weights about 40 lbs with a hand crank winch on it. I don't have the video of the new version posted yet. If you have any interest, email me at widevisionmetalfab at the gee mails.

If I only knew how to weld. I need one of these so bad and it is exactly what I want in a skinning rack. Do you happen to sell these?
@WideVisionMetalFab
@WideVisionMetalFab 6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about selling them. Unfortunately, I can't come close to competing with the price of the ones already for sale online. I'd need at least $160, and sportsman's guide sells them for $99

Wide Vision Metal Fab, I see that sucks. I found what you are talking about and I gmhave to say your design is much better. I like that your telescopes and folds up, taking up the least amount of space and I'm sure much easier to store when your done with it. Just wondering does your price include shipping or is that just for the rack itself?

I bought enough steel to make 5 of them for $200. Then the winch was $40, the pulleys $10, and $10 for paint. Plus some bolts and pins. So a little over $100.
