Agree with you on The Imaginary Friend. I read it last year. Loved the first half but seemed to go off on a tangent for the last half. Look forward to reading these. Thanks

I know this video is kind of old at this point, but I've been watching your backlog and just read "The Haar" based on this recommendation. Devoured the whole thing in two days, just finished it and I LOVED IT. Splatterpunk is not usually my genre, but this book was so SO good. *Feelings* is right!! 😭❤️

I read Come Closer years ago and still remember it as one of those books where the premise and execution really creeped me out. I read a lot of horror and 3 books that have stood out for me is In the Valley of the Sun by Andy Davidson, Touch the Night by Max Booth lll and The Last House on Needless Street. A great historical fiction horror is Between Two Fires by Christopher Beuhlman (not sure I spelled that correctly) great character and world development in that one. Loving your videos!

Ok I have a recommendation: It is extreme horror, and it does feature violence against women, which I know isn't really your jam...but...Survivor by JF Gonzalez was such an emotional wallop for me. It's beautifully written, and if you can get through the first half, the second half is honestly just this incredibly gripping crime thriller. I couldn't put it down.

@@ShelbyTaylorExists that is actually on my list 😳 maybe for the next extreme horror vlog 🤪

I dont know if you’re still taking recs, but i recently finished Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie. It's set up like a found footage horror movie meets archivist project. The first half to 2/3 is a little campy, but then it turns the screw and delves into some existential horror. At one point i was tearing up. There were time my heart was racing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I really enjoyed the Motherthing, Near the Bone & Come Closer especially! I have a copy of Rouge I can't wait to read. For recommendations, I can't suggest 'the Luminous Dead' by Cailtin Starling, 'the Twisted Ones' by T. Kingfisher or 'Rules for Vanishing' by Kate Alice Marshall. Currently reading 'the Spite House' by Johnny Compton and it's very good.

Oh I loved this. I think you would enjoy House of Leaves by Mark Z Danelewski, Black Mouth by Ronald Malfi, Bad Cree by Jessica Johns, Chouette by Clare Oshetsky (more weird than scary but I still love it), The Laws of the Skies by Gregoire Courtois, and String Follow by Simon Jacobs. We have pretty similar horror tastes and these are some of my faves. Hope you like them!

I loved Rouge and Come Closer too, they were both very unsettling to me. Definitely want to check out The Haar 👀 And for recommendations, I love the Six Stories series by Matt Wesolowski, they are written like the translation of a podcast with interviews and stuff like that, mixing supernatural elements with more realistic crime.

Imaginary Friend was hands down one of the worst books I've ever read. Like 300 pages too long. A few amazingly written passages of horror then it became a ham fisted Jesus metaphor that hits you over the head ugh

There is a sequel to GONE TO SEE THE RIVER MAN. It’s called ALONG THE RIVER OF FLESH. It’s a great read so far. There is more murders and more characters. I think you will really enjoy if you’ve not read it yet. Another great book that I’ve read this year is THIS WRETCHED VALLEY. It’s a horror book set in Kentucky. There is body horror and gore, but the story is great.
