Even if they never make a show about this it's fine because the comics feel cinematic as fuck anyway. It reminds me of The Wire, The Departed, maybe some Breaking Bad, Deadwood, State of Grace, all kinds of good shit.
@devonmunn57283 жыл бұрын
I would say more Breaking Bad due to its Neo-Western feel. The Wire has a different feel & tone plus it's more hyperrealistic, Scalped is more akin to a gritty crime story like BB or Sons Of Anarchy
@bcaffiene942 жыл бұрын
The wire was one of many of Aaron’s influences for scalped.

Great series, near the top of the list of my favorite comics for sure. Jason Aaron is so damn good at crime dramas If you can find it, check out Men of Wrath. 5 issue mini-series and I believe there is a hardcover. It was first published under Marvel's Icon line, but I think Image might have published the hard cover. If you liked Scalped it's worth tracking down

I downloaded this to see what it was like, and now I am looking to buy it. An awesome read so far. Great review, thx Gem! From what I gather the reservation represents Pine Ridge, and this is related to the real life incident when two FBI agents were killed at Oglala on 26th June 1975 (the dates are exactly the same). This is the killings that Leonard Peltier still sits in jail for. I wonder why they kept the dates the same, but chose to rename the reservation. Anyway, absolutely loving this read, and coinciding with some research I am doing on Native American history.

Great review. I've been meaning to finish reading Scalped for a few years now, college and waiting to long to pick up the series in HC is my own fault. Book 2 is now oop. I've been reading Scalped through comixology. Currently I've read 35 issue, The Gnawing arc. Read Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron. It's also a crime drama set in Alabama revolving around a corrupt football coach, great stuff you won't be disappointed. Southern Bastards currently has four volumes out and a HC volume 1.

Just finished the Deluxe Edition. This is a series with no real "bad guy", just a lot of flawed people all doing their best to do what they feel they need to. But that said, Dino Poor Bear totally gets the biggest POS. Catcher and Nitz are probably runner ups, Catcher because he's a crazy murderer and Nitz for being a racist Fed who throws his weight around and hurts innocent people in his crusade. But at least both of them had rationalizations for their atrocity, Dino didn't really have an excuse for any of the shite he did, except for a persecution complex. Be dumps his kid on Poor Bear Sr. and later Gina, he falls in with crime as an excuse to provide for her and never really does shite for her, he had a shot as getting off the rez and starting fresh and chose to party with his friends, and he caused untold troubles for the protagonist out of petty jealousy. Kid was a bad seed, with no real redemptive arc and no real excuses.

I'm native american I need to read this, I know it's just a book but it seems a bit stereo-typed, insulting. First off, scalping. Way back when foreigners, non-natives after murdering us would scalp us to have it as a trophy or use it to collect bounties, then they'd call us savages & say we were animals. Our reserve is very peaceful, clean & were good people. Theirs not high alcohol, drug abuse & with a lot of other things I can ramble on & on. Point is any1 who doesn't know native americans, don't view us as "bad" illegal people or view us off of some of the views threw this book. I don't doubt this is a good, cool story but remember it's not real. Thanks for reading & don't judge. 👍
