A shame the end of the libba bray series was so disappointing :( I read the first one and liked it, but didn't love it enough to continue on with the whole series. Good for you to be dnfing books you aren't enjoying and saving yourself time! I have the ballad of black tom on my wishlist of books to try. I am really looking forward to it for the concept but a shame it felt a bit rushed. I really like dr jekyll and mr hyde but I agree on more telling than showing, and I think with us all knowing the plot reveal due to it being such a famous classic detracts from most reader's experiences as there is no shock.

@@OliviasCatastrophe YES such a good point about the “plot twists” in classics! Def detracts from the reading experience

I enjoyed Too Like The Lightning with reservations. There are some reveals that kept me going. The second book turned me off so fast - there's a weird non-con scene to start and it gave me so much ick. It seemed pretty superfluous to the story too, so I DNFed there. Had high hopes for the series so that was probably the biggest disappointment of my reading year.
