I remember having one of those old "beetles" back in the 1970's. There were several "mystery" knobs on the dash and I couldn't figure out what they did. Maybe one of them was a control to make the car fly. Have all owners of these older beetles check their cars for unknown features & this puzzle may be solved!

This was one of the last super weapons used by the third reich in the last months of the war. Due to a surplus of Volkswagons and a severe fuel shortage there were thousands of surplus autos in the fatherland. The autos ( primarily Volkswagons ) were loaded with bratwurst and strudel. They were then air dropped from JU-52s behind American and Russian lines. As the Americans and Russians feasted on these delicacies the Germans would attack. With this tactic the tide of war started to turn to the German's favor until they ran out of Volkswagons in early March 1945. This ingenious tactic proves once again that an army is controlled through it's stomach more than any other factor. .

My uncle was co-pilot of the Memphis Belle, a B-17 that completed 25 missions during the war; it's 26th mission was to fly home. But that flight home might have never occurred had they been the lead aircraft the day 4 Beetles hit and destroyed the B-17, Liverpool John, flown by the heroic Sgt, Pepper. It was hardy just another day in the life.

GTown Dave Well my uncle was George S. Patton. The S stood for "Sawfish" some of you might not know. I used to call him old General Three Star. He was a crotchety sort. Funny - the original picture of Porsche with Hitler at 2:09 - the car does not have a military cross emblem on it. Pre-war beetles had a blinker wing on the b-pillar, not a blinker on the front above the wheel 2:16 - obviously photo shopped in.
@MrOnionterror11 жыл бұрын
The footage at the end is originally of the bouncing bomb tests in 1943. They took place in Reculver, about a mile from where I grew up. We had picnics there many times, so I recognise it.

This is the best, most rael video on KZbin. I like the chrome trim around the windshield and blinkers on top of the fenders at 2:15, but the view at 2:18 is totally awesome, I really like the wide tires all the beetles came with back then for more aerodynamic stability. I think I even see Rael of the Raelians inside one of them. Too bad he must have survived.

There also was another project along with it in which scientists were trying to put feathers on these things so that instead of dropping directly from the bombers they could be guided by flying. The feathers would be controlled by radio control. The problem was that the feathers required a special type of glue, and because of the war shortages, the Luftwaffe could not get enough of it to make the project successful.

No, the first VWs were in development before the outbreak of war in September 1939. A stamp system was instituted for people to pay off the purchase price in regular installments, and some people were only 3 or 4 stamps away from picking up their new car when war was declared and the factory turned to building Kübelwagens. Thus no VW Type 1s were sold prewar.

This is satire, of course. However, there is considerable reason to believe that the beetle platform was intended from the start to have military application. At the time of the beetle's conception, Germany had not yet repudiated the Versailles Treaty, and all manner of projects, especially in aviation, were being conducted as civilian but actually were intended for war. Fighters were developed as racers and mail planes. Bombers were developed as airliners. The beetle's architecture makes more sense for the battlefield than for the autobahn. I think it's no accident that so many Kubelwagens were produced, and so few sedans, until after the war.

My Grandfather was one of the head engineers of the Volkwaffe during its production.... He had written a small journal with some diagrams of the plans and the operator instructions at the time this would have been a criminal offence to record any plans of the construction of any vehicles or weapons being manufactured for the NSDAP. Basically he didn't survive the war because the allies during the bombings had destroyed manning of the manufacturing plants in which my grandfather would have been working in. But he managed to pass on this book to his wife or my grandmother whom had stored it away for some time before my family began to question my grandmother on the activites of which my grandfather took part in and so she brought out this journal of my grandfather's and there is extensive outlines on the Volkwaffe and how it worked. It was incredible stuff it is not fiction and many people see this as impossible and some kind of joke or trick. The Volkwaffe was a real weapon used by Hitler and the NSDAP. I was told not to tell anyone this for it may reveal possible evedience of the NSDAP's true strength many believed Hitler's death was the end but there is more too come... many will die except the few who understand when the day comes people wont be laughing they will be screaming for the Americans and the UN to save them no help will come for the strength of the Volkwaffe is coming many doughted that Germany will rise again as a superpower but with the Volkwaffe... Germany will conquer the earth and the only chicks on the earth will be hot babes blondes with blue eyes.... lol jokes dude i should go peace DEUTSCHLAND ubER ALLES ( all being all the nazi's like i mean Germany is better than the nazi's and Hitler, Germany should be proud of its inventions such as the Volkwaffe like come on ww2 doesn't automatically make u worthless pick up your feet and carry on man and women and german people lets get the party started up in here GHETTOFAUST all my bros :) .... )

It was all a misunderstanding. Authorizing the militarization of "the bug", Hitler thought he was okaying germ warfare. The next year Rudolf Hess flew to Scotland. "Remember what your esteemed mutter told you," were his last words to Hitler before he literally skipped out. He was great at navigation but very poor on geography and thought he was landing near one of the two great steel-producing centers of North America. "But aren't you Hamilton?" he said to his Scottish host. "I am indeed," the duke replied. "Then where are your smokestacks?" Hess said, clearly confused - or maybe that should be "unclearly." "Oh, we don't do that sort of thing up here," the Duke of Hamilton said. "The man's mad!" Hess's parting shot eventually led Adolf Hitler to put a bullet through his own head. And the rest, as they say, isn't history. And that's the reason I don't drive a Volkswagen - or anything else, for that matter - but my predecessor does, a black one, rag top. Auf wiedershen! BURGERMEISTER.

This weapon launched 1.5 liter all glass beer mugs up to 25,000 ft, using flack guns, one can only imagine how destructive a half kilo of solid glass might be to a B'17 tail or the nose of a flying porcupine {B-24}. At the 2:15 mark a VW is shown. That bug is from the mid-to-late 1960's. Originally there were no signal lights on the Volkswagen, then they were put below the lights and used clear, white plastic covers. It wasn't until US federal law mandated orange signal lights in 1963 that the company began to put the signal lights on the top of the fender. It's obvious that the cover is dark colored, or orange. I'm not smart, just old. I was there.
