The recharged Boveda packs never perform as originally specified. After recharging they tend to run 2-3% low. That is part of the reason Boveda doesn't encourage you to recharge, they would be liable for damages. I recharge all the time, however, I always use the recharged pack as the moisture sink and a new pack for control. For example, I will take a humidor I want at 69% and put a new 68% in it and a recharged 72%. I know the recharged 72 will give me 67-71(they are also less accurate after recharge). The recharged pack will provide most of the moisture, allowing the 68 to last 1-2 years! I can probably recharge the 72 at least three times before I need to transfer it to the Cuban humidor (65). If you want to get an idea of performance on recharges. Put the recharged pack in ziplock with cheaper cigars and a humidity meter. Look at the meter every couple days until you get an idea of the performance. When you are comfortable with the recharge pack performance, transfer to humidor.

You don't need the sponge. Dish of water in a jar will go to 100%RH. Packs will absorb water. Weigh packs to determine how much water they're holding before use.

What ever way works for you. I find the sponge helps to disperse and evaporate the water faster. Either way will work. Thanks for watching! ~ JJ

True . I did what the cigar obsession guy suggest and completely submerged my 65% 60g packets in distilled water for about a 5 days until they were completely soft. After that I took them out to air dry then put them back in my acrylic humidor. The RH was around 75% after a few days.. I knew something was wrong so I took the packs out. The humidity started dropping so I knew it was the packs. I weighted then and they were at almost 90 grams instead of 60, causing them to release humidity in the high 70's. I verified this by sticking them In a air tight jar with 3 hygromiters. They all read the same 78%!!. What I'm doing now is letting them sit out to release their humidity. It's day 3 now, the packs weight about 80grams and are staying consistent at 72% RH. I'm assuming the closer they get to 60 grams the closer they'll get to 65% RH.. Point of this ramble is DONT OVER DO IT.!

If they get wet, the paper will hold up but the salts in them will “clump.” I just started to recharge some yesterday. I put the 69% packs in a ziplock bag with a humidifier filled with 72% crystals. It works but is very slow. I can see how this would work much more quickly, especially if placing in a warm area. Good info!

Phil P, you are correct on the paper holding up if it gets wet - I was just stating that "Boveda prefers that you don't get it wet". However I did have one get thinner and start to rip apart because it got wet a few times. Humi-beads are great to use too - You might find that a little heat may help with the recharge process. Thanks for watching brother, and keep it fired up!

Cigar Creed yes, the paper will only hold up to a certain point. The interesting thing about soaking them though was the salts clumping like rock candy.

Nice an easy. I agree, I think this would be the best method. It takes longer but it should restore better. One note, there is a very by Boveda not to do this because of "sharp crystals" that form that can break the membrane and wrapper. To avoid this issue simply recharge them before they get super hard and/or do not bend them at all while doing this. Good job, thanks for the video.
@cigarcreed41544 жыл бұрын
Absolutely this method works well. I agree not to let the packs get completely dried out because they can tear. I had to exaggerate to really show how well this way works. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching! ~ JJ

Rather than a sponge try using diffuser reeds. I get mine at Pier 1 Imports for $2 a pack of 10 (11 inch). They work incredibly well at putting humidity into an enclosed space...

Anon Trujillo, that's another great option instead of a spong. It's all about what you feel works best. Thanks for watching, thanks for sharing! ~JJ

@S. Williams, there's nothing wrong with using a bowl of water. I find the the smaller poor's in the sponge, tends to hold more water and seems to disperse the water vapor faster. Any way you do it, the end result is the same. Just a different way to get the same end result. Thanks for watching! ~ JJ

I've recharged a few 5-6 times with zero issues by just submerging the entire thing in water for 2 days. Can't tell a difference besides the wrapper on the old ones are more wrinkled.

Would there be any difference if it was just water in the purple bowl and not the sponge?

Good day, ah. A fellow Canuk here. Like the concept of keeping packs dry,paper will break down eventually no matter how easy one keeps it. I use 62% packs. Was wandering if the hydration method is the same? ps. it's winter again;)

Nothing! What's wrong with a 15min informative video on recharging Boveda?
@aldel54345 жыл бұрын
Well, technically nothing, but the topic is for a way way shorter video than that. And in 2019 people don't like to watch long videos, so its less likely to engage with it. Also, you can kinda deduce where this thing is going from the first couple of minutes and rest its just filler. @@cigarcreed4154

Well the fact that some people have a short attention span, is NOT my problem. So I don't know what gives them the right to dictate to me, how long my videos should be. If a person can't sit through a 15min video, how are they expected to sit and have a cigar, and give it the time, IT deserves. Just like the amount of time it takes me to put together a video, editing, content and MY personal time I put into it. Perhaps those people should make a video them selves, and maybe a little respect can be given towards the effort, others puts into their videos. l wish you all the best! ~JJ
