Can't check enough. I've got a set in the garage. Will put them through the test. Thanks.

I have said this before but I really don't understand why your informative videos don't get very many views but absolute shade tree garbage gets millions of views. As a shop owner I still hand lap every valve and sleep like a baby at night. The fast production method is vacuum testing but it doesn't show you your contact area on the valve face. Thanks for the positive reinforcement!!

Excellent advice, always check your seat locations. Instead of lapping we use dry graphite spray on the face of the valve, rotate back and forth about 90deg. You can see the seat location and if it hitting all the way around. If all looks good and has no leak vacuum testing without a spring, theres no need to use grinding compound on a machined seats and valves. I know alot of people still lap and it's a very accepted. Me personally, I try not to.

May I ask the city of your shop location? I have 2 NOS Buick V-6 heads for 1979 Turbo application that needs a pro-cleanup, basic prep. They sat on a shelf 40 years. Thanks.

If you've had your heads professionally done should you see dyechem in the chamber when you get them back or is it normal for them to be cleaned again?

I bought a new set of summit branded (trick flow) sbc alminum heads that the valve job is absolutely terrible. Valves aren't centered in the seats at all, guides to tight and overall the machining was just terrible. I didn't check it before I put the motor together like a dummy so now I had to pull motor all apart and are having to spend a bunch of money getting it all fixed. At this point I should've just gotten afr heads. Definitely don't assume new is good like I did. I won't make that mistake again.

Trust me. The afr's won't be any better. They all need work when they are new.

Graham, I had just as bad of a experience with SUMMIT house branded, high stall converter. Cold welds, terribly offset in the drilling of the bolt pattern. Of the 3 converter to flywheel mounting holes, only 1 was barely acceptable. None of the 3 mounting holes were concentric to the center hub. The customer service was even worse than the quality of the component. In a way I blame myself, because I should have known better. T.S. RACING

@@sharons9367 Not only "these days." In December, 2004, I got a set of just released AFR 225s for an LS build. All 16 valves had the installed height stacked .100" too short (stiff sumbitches!!). Instead of 1.780", they all came in at 1.680"-1.690". Mamo still ran the AFR program then. Most serious builders know who I'm talking about. I'd like to think Brodix is still good out of the box, but who knows......

@@milojanis4901 it seems that manufacturing these day has really turned for the worst Quality of materials used etc Camshafts / lifters especially

Quality control on these manufacturers must be poor.
