I can tell you, this is a post 1980 dish, we never had peanut butter in Rhodesia as far as I can remember. Jams and marmalades as I remember.

That's a damn lie 🙄. Maybe in the grocery stores they didn't sell it. We always had peanut butter from the village so this is truly a traditional dish. Peanut butter from the village is best because there's no added sugar.

Peanut butter / dovi has been a part of zimbabwean cuisine for centuries. I remember my gran (born in early 1900s) saying they ground Peanut butter to use for barter trade. And that would have been pre Rhodesian colonial days
