"Recitatif" By Toni Morrison
Hello, I do not own the audio or anything about this video, I recorded over the audio to help college students/audio listeners. This video was taken from Spotify because many of my Employees can only be on specific websites in the buildings such as KZbin, I preferred for them to learn while working. Thank you!

A few times the speaker added some extra context, like saying "Greyhound bus" rather than just "Greyhound" which is all that was written. That really helps!! Thanks! :)

Recitatif is the boring part of an opera when the characters are singing their ordinary speech. It is opposed to the highly emotional highly lyrical songs called arias.

I think Twyla and Roberta killed Maggie. Or at least Twyla. What happened to Maggie? I am doing a close reading for class after reading the short story last week and currently on page 5. Twyla mentions killing someone 5 times and even calls Roberta a killer another time and we are only on page 5 here 😅

Where do the mention killing in this audiobook?

@@lukask2597 It’s been so long lol. But it’s a lot of clues. Like maybe they blocked it out of their mind or something. This was the last line. Roberta lifted her hands from the tabletop and covered her face with her palms. When she took them away she really was crying. "Oh shit, Twyla. Shit, shit, shit. What the hell happened to Maggie?"

@@lukask2597 oh well they have free pdf files you can follow with. They mention killing so many different times. With some of the great writers as a literary device is used a lot in short stories. I had printed out the short story and used a highlighter. I just noticed the pattern. I forget how times but the first 5 pages the word kill was used expressively. Toni Morrison could’ve used other words you know

Thanks for the upload and this is no criticism on your narration, but this is the most poorly written book I’ve listened too, it’s extremely difficult to keep track of what’s going on.

It’s a post modern story, so it’s kinda meant to be like that. The intro chapter to Slaughterhouse Five is pretty similar. As far as I know, they’re intended to come off as fragmented and sort of choppy to sort of emulate what it would be like to actually sit down and listen to an older person talk about their memories.
