I almost sank a boat in boynton once because, while i've been boating my whole life, that was my first time boating in florida and the rental guy did not at all explain the channel tide/wave situation. "It's a narrow channel, it's only 80 feet" doesn't mean anything if you're not a local. 80 feet is very wide in normal boating situations.

My favorite power boat is the 1650 Lowe Fishing boat (1995) with a single Evinrude 65hp (2007) outboard..... Because that is the one I'm lucky enough to have :) Great videos! That place looks so awesome and fun. All those boats are totally breath taking in my opinion!!

I personally don’t like them bow riders, I always feel it’s huge Waste of space, I would just perfer a 1/2 cabin. Over night stays, a mini galley possibly a head, like the old 80s boats.. they are dry comfy, and extremely practical plus you can still sit on the bow at Anchor if you like.. far more practical imo, that’s what I owned most of my life..

My favorite powerboat is the one that appeared out of nowhere right after you asked the question! :). The big gorgeous yacht. If I get a boat, I want staff!! LOL. I can tell you what I do NOT like at all. I don’t like Cigarette boats. Not necessarily the boats themselves, but they always seem to be operated by young men (or midlife crisis men) who feel that they MUST show off their boat and their skills (or lack thereof). The only purpose that I know of for buying such an expensive boat is to go fast. I’m 56 years old and I’ve raced stock cars, I’ve driven in high-speed police pursuits dozens and dozens of times (as the chaser, not the chasee LOL), so all of that stuff just doesn’t interest me. I like being on the water, in the shade (I’ve had 7 skin cancer operations and all of these people will as well if they don’t keep the sunscreen on). HOLY CRAP the Leopard Yachts just went by as I’m typing this. Okay, that’s my new favorite. That’s a private cruise ship, that’s not a yacht! That was drop-dead gorgeous!!!). Anyway, what was I saying before that awesome boat caught my attention? Oh, just that I want a comfy yacht, genset, full kitchen, all of the luxuries, etc….I have absolutely no desire or want to do this Haulover Inlet thing (except watch!). Plus, I have metal rods and screws in my spine and neck, soon to have more surgeries. These waves would not work for me. They’d probably kill me--literally. Those two at the end---WTF?? Was that the Skipper and his little buddy Gilligan???? OMG what were they thinking?

Never been able to see what attracts/amuses people when using a planing hull in rough water. Some years ago I managed a family beach holiday camp. One of the attendees brought his super flash motor boat and at first every body lined up to get on it, impressed by the expensive appearance of the vessel (with a planing hull). A neighbour asked us if we wanted to use his old C-class catamaran and as I had had experience with cats was asked to be the skipper and take people for rides. Within a day or so I was flat out with people of all ages asking me to take them for rides 9n the cat, while almost everybody shunned the powered vessel. Noisy, smelly and was likely to batter your brains out. Philip
