From a referee, I would never want a game to be irrevocably altered because I handed out a yellow for 1 delay of a restart if I already hadnt enforced it rigidly. I agree with Maz the issue is the consistency, but all in all right call and rough break for Rice

Nobody is seeing it from the same way as me ! For me there are some questions that need answering. My first question would be should a free kick be taken from where the offence happened ? Second question once a free kick is given are you allowed to kick the ball forwards then kick it again for the free kick ? Third question could the referee say for certain that if a player that has the ball kicked at him in that situation was trying to tap it out of play or tap it to a stop the ball to allow the free kick to be taken. Forth question did VAR know that Veltman aimed the kick at Rice and not the ball ?

No mate Hinshelwood was playing in defense while in the lower academy growing up. He just got moved to midfield towards the latter part of the academy journey. So he should be ok with playing in LB. Unfortunately he has hit a ceiling. He needs to improve to retain his place. Hopefully he can.

I agree he would have to improve drastically to be our starting left back, but on his more comfortable side I think he's a terrific depth option. He's still only 19 so he's still physically maturing and that will help his defense immensely

Big difference between the Pedro kicking the ball, against the Rice kicking the ball. The change was to stop players interfering with the flow of the game. When Pedro kicked the ball, it did not interfere with the flow of the game. Arsenal were not rushing to take a throw in and as there are spare balls around, Arsenal players would have gone for another ball, rather than that particular ball if they wanted to rush. When Rice kicked the ball, it was as Veltman was about to kick the ball. So 100% interfering with the flow of the game and 100% an offence. A bloody stupid offence, but still a yellow card all day long.

So by the same logic, if rice had thumped the ball 30 yards down the line, earlier, as soon as the “foul” had been committed then it wouldn’t have been deemed a yellow card because it wasn’t “as veltman was about to kick the ball”. Fact is both players tried to do the same thing if not joao pedro more so. The referee simply chose to enforce the rules of the game in one situation where he recognised Arsenal would be punished for it but not for the same for Brighton.

The laws of the game state "Delaying the restart of play Referees must caution players who delay the restart of play by: • kicking or carrying the ball away, or provoking a confrontation by deliberately touching the ball after the referee has stopped play. The referee therefore had no option he had to book Rice. This was not the same situation as Pedro.

Their goal should have been chalked off as it was handball by saka. He didn't know anything about it, but if it hits your hand and leads to a goal, VAR should of disallowed the goal. I thought i saw it when i was watching the game but now the highlights are out you can see it clearly hit his arm.
