In 2012 some coworkers told me that our manager was having trouble breathing in a conference room. I went to see him and immediately noticed the half face droop and slurred speech. I had seen it on the TV show House and knew it was a stroke. I ran out and called 911. He spent a week in the hospital but is fine today. It is really good to know stuff like this.

This is one of the best videos I have ever seen to educate about stroke. The animations are great and the explanation is understandable to those with limited health literacy. I am going to use this in one of my stroke education classes (I work in physical medicine and rehabilitation) as I believe it is better than the video I am currently using. Thank you for this content!

I’ve seen two members of my family be incapacitated through this, unfortunately it was a long time ago before people were informed properly about it! They were both so bad that they were more or less living zombies, it was just so upsetting and frightening to see them like that. Now there’s a lot more knowledge and public awareness of it things are different, but the fact still remains that if you’re remote from the right medical services you could easily have the same outcome as my family did. Very informative and interesting content, many thanks 🌹

Can someone have had a tia and it not show up on later (months/years) mri? If so, can the degenerative effects continue to progress as there is no intervention? In a woman, if that matters.

I had an ischemic stroke at 34. My mother had major strokes before her death at 60. So i have always taught my kids about them and what to look for. I woke up and was dropping my cell phone and tripping over my feet on my way to go pee... very unusual. My then 15 yr old daughter was like um.. say something to me mom- so i spoke and she was like um, youre taliing funny. Im calling 911. I was having or recently had a stroke. It was a blood clot from my leg, caused by smoking cigarettes for 20+ years- and it went through a hole in my heart (I didnt know I had) which is very common but often isnt an issue- unless you get a blood clot. In which case it gets fast tracked up to your brain. After a bunch of fussing about they found the big ole clot and went up my femoral artery, through my neck and head and up into my artery to grab and remove the clot. It was successful and I have the cardiology dept of Legacy Emanuel in Portland,OR to thank for my life, along with my daughter. I quit smoking there and then. If only we could all quit doing thing that hurt us without the big bad emergency to really get us to quit, ya know? I wanted to watch this to catch up on facts. Nov 28th is my 5 year mark. Im 39 now and I do believe I'm in the safe mark, mostly. Wishing you well and THANK YOU for the fantastic, fact filled video! New subscriber!!

Ive been looking for information about what heavy deug use dose to the brain, its all been pretty much a joke, as in heavy drinking is 6 drinks a day? Heavy opiate use is one 80mg a day, heavy benzo use is 3-4 mgs a day of clonazepam, it goes on and on. What happens to youe brain is you drink 1.75 liters a day? If there is info on that id like to see it. And yes it can be done daily. Or 440 mgs of oxycodone a day. 30 mgs of benzos clonazepam, lorazepam, and alprazolam a day. Us there any research done on heavy drug and alcohol use? Not heavy for a normal person but heavy for someone with a high tolerance.
