Almost 3 years later... it's time to continue this series!
In October and November of 2021, Recology Sonoma Marin contracted Strategic Cart Services to replace all of the old WM branded carts in the West Marin area, and any other carts (PODC, Greenwaste) bins that weren't Recology branded. Due to poor communication between Recology and these guys, the bins were replaced before the truck came through to empty their contents - which is why you'll see the crew dumping full old carts into the new ones upon delivery. You'll notice how dirty the black carts are as well - this is because RSM ran out of normal grey 30 gallon carts and had to use a ton from SF, cutting out the 16 gallon insert in every one, resulting in sawdust residue left over. Despite the avoidable inconveniences placed on this crew, these guys managed and got the job done - you'll hear me notify them of already replaced carts here and there. As most enthusiasts will agree, it's unfortunate to see one of the state's most diverse and good-condition cart varieties bite the dust - but many years after Recology's buyout of North Bay Corporation, who replaced very few carts from their predecessor, WM, it was time for fresh, properly labeled bins. Most if not all of these replaced carts met the shredder - except for the few I kept, not seen here.
For anyone curious, the reason it's taken me, well, three years to start uploading the rest of my (extensive) rollout footage is due to the process of moving combined with tech difficulties. Around 4 months after this rollout, my family and I moved out of the beach, where these videos were filmed - and not until mid 2023 were we fully settled, and by that time I was fully launched into high school, until this summer. And then I had my first international trip. My goal was to just "get it done" this summer with these rollout videos - editing all of the remaining video on my mom's phone and my Gopro SD cards one video at a time. (I'm still in high school, entering Junior year - last summer I had a full time job July/August meaning this summer is the best chance to edit these videos!)
Videos of the rollout, starting with this one, will be posted once monthly - in rotation with regular garbage truck videos, for the next 8 ish months.
Huge thanks to the very friendly crew from SCS for allowing me to film hours of this process!
