Recoloring Complex Artwork in Illustrator

This is wonderful. I found myself in the exact same position (as the designer you mentioned at the beginning of the video) just this morning - and your video has been my illustration salvation! I'm so busy I don't often have the time to learn the new features of the program by taking longer (albeit great and helpful) classes; I have to find videos on the fly when I run into problems. Not ideal but that's how it goes most of the time and I'm probably no different than most designer/illustrators out there these days! Thank you for taking the time to post this, Mordy! I am truly grateful :)

Amazing!! Thank you Mordy - this is exactly what I was looking for and you've explained not only more about the Recolor Artwork feature I didn't know about, but dropped in that little trick about double clicking on the Magic Wand Tool which was a real eye opener!! I have an image that has 3500 colors and this is going to help me immensely to limit the number to a more manageable level. Thanks again :)

Man, this video is awesome I never even knew this option existed. Every time I watch a tutorial video for AI I realise how little I know the whole Adobe suite.

I've seen and lightly used the recolor art options before, but when I tried to recolor a complex image, I ran into a lot of issues. Main thing was I couldn't figure out how to tell Illustrator to not recolor something. Clicking the arrow and changing into a line is a stupid secret way of handling that function when they should just place an X to unselect a color. Thanks for explaining how to do this!

Not really what I think the file I have needs because of many differences, but still very interesting and educational. On another note, I am not colour blind but I make sure that all my software (22+ web based solutions) have colour interface schemes for the main types of colour deficiency along with Irene Syndrome and Dyslexia, and high and low contrast) That is about 20% of any given population when you look at all of those. Anyway, I digress... The main point of looking up how to change a load of water droplets that are one colour to another. They are many shade and gradients and boy it is complex. Thanks and will check out the website too.
