Brendan Hasty Thanks Brendan, I would like to know how much of surveying knowledge is expected from structural engineers.
@BrendanHasty4 жыл бұрын
In general there isn't that much you need to know, a surveyor will provide plans, you typically do not need to do any surveying. The maths behind surveying is good to know for geometry, which can be useful at times.

Hi Brendan, thanks for this awesome video. Extremely useful. I'd also recommend: Reinforced concrete - The designers handbook - by AS Beletich, ID Hymas Foundation Analysis and Design by Bowles Design of Portal frame Buildings - Woolcock Let's not forget the basics - Mechanics of Materials by Hibbeler Cheers

Nice vid Brendan. A few additions I would make: Australian Guidebook for Structural Engineers - Pack A relatively new book, provides a good outline of the basics of structural engineering design in AU including loading, steel, concrete and geotech design. FIB Bulletin 58 - Design of Anchorages in Concrete Really great and in-depth reference for interfacing steel with concrete which I feel is poorly covered elsewhere. The procedures in this book are those used in EN 1992 as well as AS 5216 (and I think ACI 318 is similar). Design of Portal Frame Buildings - Woolcock et al Great outline of the calculations involved in designing a building and has a really great section on cranes and monorails which I refer to frequently.

Hi Moizuddin, glad you enjoyed the video. The book I mention is an old general engineering book, however, if you search you will be able to find a more up-to-date general engineering book. But if you are interested I found this link to a copy www.amazon.com/Design-Data-Book-Civil-Engineers/dp/0471772860. Most if the other books should be linked in the description

Hello Brendan!!! Pls i want to ask, can a mechanical engineer dabble into steel structure design? Thanks
@BrendanHasty2 жыл бұрын
Hi Okeoma, techinally there isnt anything stopping you, it maybe harder to be certified structural engineer. Mechanical engineers know alot about the mechanical properties of steel

In typical Structural Eng. design office, there will be one or two engineers and a bunch of structural drafters.... I believe there is more work done by drafters than a design Engineer who makes sure they use correct structural design members and rebars. Some offices engineers can also do drafting!
