It's a great rapid animation. But if you have time watch the NOVA special that details the engineering and artistry that went into the restoration. The ancient Franks built a treasure. The modern French restored carefully what would have been a great loss. WELL DONE, FRANCE 🇫🇷.

I visited in 1969.. I love cathedrals anyway but Notre Dame is just very special. So good to see it being rebuilt and with such reverence. Places that have meant so much to so many people down the centuries, and I'm not religious but those buildings communicate something so special through the ages..

Having said that I'm not religious I suppose means that I do not partake in religious ceremonies. I don't believe that God exists but that Jesus Christ did exist. I believe that creation as we perceive it and as it evolves every day with new scientific discoveries is way more complicated than any human being can yet understand. So not really surprising that 2000 odd years ago the wise men of the times created the story about how God created the world in seven days etc. Why we still stick with that story I don't know and ofcourse non believers can quickly debunk the whole of religion. Whereas if the story was modified to reflect modern science then we could retain all the morality of religious values possibly which ofcourse very often get debunked with the rest.. Even by the religious evangelists..

@@Tib68 une charpente assez simple en fait. Ce modèle que vous avez vu en vidéo m'a permis de rencontrer les compagnons charpentier d'Anglet, qui ont fait une maquette au 1/20ème de la charpente : pour eux, ce sont des techniques plutôt basiques. Étrangement !

Pour moi, c'est, surtout, le meilleur projet. Jne comprends pas les autres projets, par exemple, la flamme à la place de la flèche ou la grande piscine qui prendrait place du toit ou bien la flèche "modernisée".

La charpente n'est absolument pas faite comme ceci, c'est du chevron formant fermes, aucunes pannes, juste des fermes principale et secondaire

Et oui, Charpentier est un metier, qui n'est pas le miens. Ce qui rend d'ailleurs parfaitement incompréhensible votre jargon ! Ceci étant dit, ce modèle de charpente s'inspire très fortement de ce que j'ai vu sur la maquette réelle 1/20éme des compagnons charpentier.

Je concède. Choix musical peu soigné car cette vidéo n'était pas supposée faire autant de vue 😊. Cette animation 3D est la fin du court métrage "Au coeur du Brasier" trouvable sur ma page youtube. La musique y est meilleur !

It's just my opinion, but I strongly believe the new roof should follow what was done at Chartres and Reims cathedrals, whose roofs completely burned, and be constructed with nonflammable material. Chartres has a metal construction and Reims has concrete and reinforced steel.

While showing a nice computer recreation of the roof structure, even this omits the necessary reconstruction of the Transept vaulted ceiling for the cathedral and shows the spire being build over an open ceiling. Nor does it address what additional strengthening of the side walls will be necessary even for a lighter weight of roof structure.

It makes zero sense to rebuild the roof and spire out of the same materials that burned and collapsed. Especially when you think of how many old growth trees will need to be felled to make those roof trusses.

According to the Venice Charter, any historical building has to be restored in its most recent coherent and well documented state. Also these materials lasted more than eight centuries without any troubles, not that bad. By the way, the 2000 oaks needed for the restoration actually represent 0.2% of the number of oaks usually taken down every year in France. And despite this high production, forests are growing every year, and have already reached the extent they had during middle ages.

@@geoffroydelaitre5966 ok, but consider this. The materials used were what they had at the time. If they had mass produced steel and cranes in the 13th century, chances are they would have used that instead of heavy timbers. If they're going to rebuild the roof as it was, then maybe they should use the same construction methods: block and tackle with donkeys as counterweights. And yea, the roof stood for 800 years, but it burned to nothing within a few hours. The cathedral in cologne had a similar fire, they used cast iron to rebuild its roof, and you cant even tell the difference from the outside.
