Hard to find an original pressing of the Modern Lovers debut. Excellent find there Steve. I actually found a sealed copy in Boston if you can believe that. A replacement copy for a great price which was welcome in my collection. I also grabbed the Rhino reissue from the mid-eighties with the alternate cover. It sounds really good. If you ever see that one for a cheap price I would suggest it. Boy. Albini had such a great career. Especially in his early punk years. Way to go Steve. Always good to see you~ Rob/Boston

Rob, thanks for the tip on Modern Lovers, that is such an important album to me. And you finding a sealed copy, you live life right my friend. I got to get back to Boston one of these days.

@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I would love to see you get to Boston sometime Steve. We will definitely do some digging. If you come in the summer we can hit the shores. If not we can do some lunch. I have not been beaching it too much this year. The weekend weather has been hit or miss. Mostly misses. For anyone who digs the endless summer months as much as I do. They would be better off down south. The east coast summer months are only good if you are independently wealthy or retired. This way you have ninety days to plan. You are bound to land some killer beach day weather. Hope to talk to you soon Steve~

As usual, sir, interesting stuff...not for me, mind you, but still interesting...heh heh....Ozean is pretty interesting, but none of the rest are in my wheelhouse, except maybe the classical piece at the end. Still, glad you enjoy all that, always a pleasure watching you get excited about all kinds of music. Did you ever find the time to listen to that Zappacosta CD I sent you last yar as part of your lottery prize? Curious to know what you thought of it, but no hurry, you're a busy man! :-) Have a great week, sir!

Thanks Mark. So much classical that I can show. I weeded a lot out where I had 4 or more of the same symphony but just different orchestras. Don’t need all of that. Shellac sounded so good, not top album of the year but an excellent clean sounding album. Snoop was great to have back, I really have had a lot of rap and country lately Is my taste changing Mark?

Congratulations on learning about the album of the year. Always great to get suggestions from other VC people. Very nice of Michael to send you the Beachwood Sparks record; I have a couple of their older albums. Ocean sounds good; too bad it took so long for it to get released. That's some great scenery at the beginning - is that taken from your balcony? Hope you have a great week!

Rob, a lot of noise rock I don’t like. There has to be a melody going on or forget it. I really wish Ozean was longer, it was a perfect album for me but alas, 3 songs. Hey Steve. I loved Shellac's "To All Trains", I think its one of their best albums and quite sad the way things turned out with Albini passing. Its a very immediate record, nothing is wasted there. And yes, it sounds massive. Thanks for bringing up the Ozean release. Thought it was more than 3 tracks damn! But I will track it down at some point because it is lovely. Modern Lovers needs to be in the house, absolutely love. Be well!

Another eclectic mix, Steve; I streamed some of the Beachwood Sparks album the other day after reading a rave review. It wafted over me a bit tbh. I also streamed some of the Shellac album after Albini died. I quite liked it, but not enough to buy it. Ozean sound wonderful. But £25 (as it is over here) for a 12" single is a lot. I might buy the digital download. Modern Lovers! I have an original UK release of the live album and it remains one of my favourite live records of all time. I always keep an eye out for the studio album at record fairs, but I've never seen a copy. I really must try more classical. Great video, Steve. cheers

Its funny whenever i've worked with Americans & they come over they always love our public transport system (I guess in America its slightly more challenging taking distances into account) . Believe it or not Bus spotting is also a big thing over here.Yes I spoke about that Shellac. Steve Albini loved the Minutemen's production style (or lack of) and they always gave each instrument equal billing, I think they likened to a kind of inter band socialism.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity91473 ай бұрын
Americans are not big into public transport. We like vehicles and the bigger the better. Added bonus is if they can suck up a lot of gasoline and make loud noises. You go to UK and you can get almost anywhere. Here, well not so much n The standout thing about Shellac was as you pointed out every instrument got equal billing, that really sounded incredible. Now I think I’m going to go out and spot a bus

I love Shellac and saw them 3 or 4 times. A particularly memorable show was when they played with Fugazi in the early 90's. I quite like the new one, but not sure if it's the best of the year or of their catalogue. Maybe 1000 Hurts? Albini had a big hand in the direction my record collection took. "Well, have you heard about the painter, Vincent van Gogh / Who loved color and who let it show? / And in the museum, what have we here? / The most soulful painter since Jan Vermeer" -- Jonathan Richman And here are my favorite Jonathan Richman lines: "Well the girls would turn the color / Of the avocado when he would drive / Down their street in his El Dorado." Unexpected. I expect you'll be taking up rock climbing now that you are in El Colorado. I think it's an excellent sport for a senior citizen. Better than shuffleboard or pickleball, or even croquet. And since you are older and don't want to waste time, I suggest that you start with free solo climbing. One big perk of free solo climbing is that if you fall from high enough up you will no longer have to worry about your arthritis or other age-related maladies. Till next time: "Be not schmuck, be not obnoxious / Be not bellbottom bummer or a**hole." In essence, stay groovy.

Ozean's lead singer was quite striking. If I had been a record company exec and I saw that photo, I'd think I could market them. Mazzy Star's success only a short time later proved that you could sell a band with slow songs and a charismatic singer. In the book "Astral Weeks" there's an account of Jonathan Richmond's first meeting with Lou Reed. I think only someone with Jonathan's extreme disingenuousness could overcome Lou's equally extreme prickliness. Try not to work too hard. Enjoy the Olympics!
