Hi 👋 Melinda. I saw Chris Isaak when i visited the USA in 1987. He played in San Francisco in the Haight Ashbury District at a venue called I - Beam. Good memory for me. I viewed him on youtube recently doing a gig and singing Elvis Presleys song Can't help falling in Love. He sounds good. I like your Doors t - shirt. Good records. I had the pleasure of seeing David Bowie live in concert in 1978 here in New Zealand. I was 18 then. Im 64 now. From Carl.

PS> The Bowie is a must . I'd like the Nat King Cole. The Dark Side of The Moon 2 discs, 1-side play only, special graphics in the disc, is a temptation if I see it and am not spent-out.

Thanks for turning me onto Yusef Lateef. How have I missed this guy. My jazz tastes are all over the map. Besides Miles and Coltrane I veer off to Sun Ra. I also enjoy people like Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Count Basie, Coleman Hawkins and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis. I'm no jazz expert or snob. But I know what I enjoy.

Hi Melinda, I'm just getting back into vinyl again after a 20+ year hiatus. I purchased a Dual 618Q and bought an additional Ortofon Black cartridge. I still have a 600+ album collection to dust off from back in the day, but this album will be my first purchase for the new TT: Rufus Reid Presents Caelan Cardello. Sounds intriguing.

Hey Melinda. I had a blast out there today. Got the Tragically Hip record (surprise inside) I was after. Lined up at 7am and froze my vinyl loving butt off…😂 Store only had 10. Swung back home for a nap😴 Then back out for round 2. Hit 4 stores in a 100mi round trip. Almost went international with quick trip across the bridge to CA. I was at a super cool shop 200 yards from the border, in Niagara Falls NY. Great day for sure. Now time to play some records. ☕️

Melinda, Thank you for this video. It’s a great watch.. Totally agree about Sun Ra, it takes some listening before you can honestly say hand on heart that you are a fan. I can honestly say that it’s not my scene Im afraid. Cannonball yes great fabulous. I have some of his albums. I enjoy Record Store Day. I just go for albums in the genres that I collect, ie Jazz, The Blues and Vintage Soul. Re The small Beatles collection. I have a CD collection of singles from The Rolling Stones. It’s a box of 12 CD’s, three of which are EP’s, It’s called The Singles 1963-1965. The box contains a booklet and a couple of postcard photos. It’s an enjoyable set. I’ve been on a bit of a spree of late. Attended a couple of Record Fairs in the last few weeks and have purchased 20 or so Albums, mostly Jazz and Blues. Think I will ease up now until RSD as the Credit Card has taken a bit of a battering lol. Thanks again for the Video. Take care Melinda. Regards. Dave

Well, I got the Poppin In Paris but missed the Burning in Bordeaux by 30 minutes. I'll keep an eye out for it on the secondary markets. Another fun video, RSD is one of my favorite holidays, I enjoy being around all the vinyl collectors, young and old celebrating the love of music, it's awesome to see. I hear those Beatles 3"rs are hot this year, lucky stores will get two, $179 for the set, one change to the mini turntables, they are now blue tooth compatible, that will make them slightly more practical, but after buying The Doors set last year I totally agree with you, they are a novelty item only. Lastly Melinda, are you familiar with Kacey Musgraves? If not, I think she is an artist you might enjoy, she has a brand new album "Deeper Well" if you are not familiar with her I'll send you a copy if that's ok. Thanks for listening, Peace!

Cool as always, Melinda! I do all my RSD stuff by mail order - usually - but I may make an exception to make sure I can nab the vinyl release by Tinted Windows - one of the best power pop albums of the 21st century, by a band that included Taylor Hanson, James Iha, Bun E Carlos, and the late Adam Schlesinger - talk about star power! LOL! Also the vinyl issue of Dead By Sunrise - love love LOVE that album, can't wait to possibly own it on vinyl! Others I'm interested in too, but they won't upset me if I don't manage to nab them - Duncan Sheik and a few others. Agree on both your points about picture discs and the Beatles - you are right on all counts on both! Have a great week! - TC

Cannonball Adderley...what a gem! From his work alongside Coltrane on Kind of Blue to his own group albums, there wasn't a more influential sax player back in the day. One of my favorite albums of his is 74 Miles Away, a live audience recording at Capitol Records has his brother Nate Adderley, Joe Zawinul of Weather Report, Roy McCurdy, and Victor Gaskin. First heard it back in the late 60's at a little bar in Tokyo (I was in the Navy) and it made a huge impression...

Greetings Melinda! I do want to pick up the Bowie and I am super stoked to get the Captain Beefheart The Spotlight Kid! They have released 2 other of his albums the last 2 record store days in double sets with killer bonus material that I love. Not everything sounds like Trout Mask! (but I love that too) I think the picture discs are cool for those that collect them but they are wall hangings, not to listen too. I have a mini record player that plays the 3' records and 4 records, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis. The sound quality is terrible but it is a novelty item and a cool conversation piece. I wouldn't mind picking up maybe a couple Beatles 3" records if sold separately. Great video and take care!

this woman is alway so charming. To see the genuine anguish flash across her face as she discussed a record that she considered a waste of effort , told me she was a genuine record collector . To see a woman's perspective in this typically male dominated area is always interesting Me, I have a lot of records that I started accumulating when records were a primary teen aged entertainment and music was more important culturally, but I haven't the collectors passion. While I appreciate trad, big band, and other older styles of jazz, It's Miles' '1965-mid 70's period, Coltrane and other "difficult" or slightly outre artists like Ornette Coleman, Sun Ra, Roland Kirk to name but a few that are where it's at for me. In a Silent Way might be my favourite by Miles overall, though I would have to have Nefertiti as well!

Thanks Melinda for reminding me about Yusef. I’m always trying to expand my jazz collection. I can never get enough of that style of music, especially the Saxophone. Lately, I’ve been into a box set from Eddie Lockjaw Davis and Shirley Scott. A rare, vintage collaboration out of the late 50s / early 60s that I’ve found it to be very unique and highly addictive. Eddie was as extremely smooth on the Sax. Not sure if you’re familiar with them, but I think their music is a treasure to own. Oh, and I love the ‘ weird ‘ stuff you mentioned. Speaking of the Sax, have you heard of “ Tuxedomoon ? “ They’re as weird as it gets 😆.

Great video as always!! I’m going to try to get the Paramore stuff and the stones titles and the sponge title!! The sponge record I knew about a few days before the list was leaked because they are a Detroit band and the label putting it out I know the people who run it!! The label is sound city records and it’s an album that was shelved by the label in 1997 and is now seeing the day of light!! I found out at a gig where I was the guitar tech and the drummer that was playing with the band I was working for was Ted nugents last drummer Jason heartless!! The band I worked for was heavens wish a great rock band from Detroit and he was filling in for the drummer who had cancer and couldn’t do the gig!! We were talking about the analogue productions version of Ted nugents first record!! I asked Jason if he gave them the master tapes and he doesn’t own them Sony owns the first six nugent records and jason owns the rest of his catalog!! So I’m very partial to the sponge record!! If you ever find a sponge record pick it up one of the most underrated bands!!

Hi Melinda! Thanks for sharing your thoughts for RSD. Even though "The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars" is one of my favorite albums, I'm on the fence with the David Bowie release. I'm not a fan of buying something on vinyl if there's a lot of alternate takes, demos, and a couple of unreleased songs. I usually buy stuff like that on CD. As for what I'm buying. My top picks are In/Casino/Out from At the Drive-In, Penrose Records Showcase Vol.2, Mejor de Los Nuggetz: Garage and Psyche from Latin America, Thin Lizzy: Live At Hammersmith 16/11/1976, and America: Live from the Hollywood Bowl. P.S. I think the release from Pearl Jam is gonna bring out a lot people for RSD this year.

That Beatles package actually came out for the last RSD "Black Friday". None of the participating RSD stores in my area got them and atleast one didn't know about it. The original 3" Crosley turntable came out a few years ago for RSD and included a mystery package of 3" singles. One pack included Jack White singles. Later, they also came out with a pack of singles from the "A Charlie Brown Christmas". I got the first issue TT w/ the Jack White singles. The original Beatles 3" TT showed up on eBay, as so many of the RSD stuff does, and was priced at something like $600.! The sound quality of the TT is what you might expect, listening through it's tiny speaker. When I played the 3" records on my regular manual turntable, I was surprised and impressed with their sound quality, plus they were stereo. The records themselves are one-sided and look like they are injection moulded, probably like the poly-styrene 45's of yore. The record player is 33 1/3rpm and can only play the special records. However, if by chance you have any of the AdCom Apple Records 3"? flexi-discs, they could probably be played on the Crosley 3" record player as they were also 33 1/3rpm. On a side note, in the late 60's to early 70's, Philco-Ford came out with the "Hip-Pocket" 45rpm 3"? 2-sided flexi records. They were all mono and could be played on almost any manual TT. Their sound quality was good. Electronics companies had already introduced the battery-operated record players which could play 7" and 12" records. Philco-Ford introduced a new "Hip-Pocket" record player, which was about the size of an 8-track cartridge, only a little thicker. If your pockets weren't big enough, the miniature record player had a wrist strap like a transistor radio. The big plus was that this record player could play 7" 45's also. I have a bunch of the "Hip-Pocket" records and the miniature Philco-Ford record player. I also have the first run of the Crosley 3" record player. It comes with the AT3600L magnetic cartridge, which has become a decent standard cartridge which is used commercially. Because the cartridge bodies are the same, you can upgrade the stylus to an ATN95E.

"Journey to the center of the mind." I love that kind of titles. It draws attention. In that regard it's in the same class as "You gotta say yes to another excess" by Yello or "Very noise" by Igorrr

For Record Store Day, check out “The Bodysnatchers” EP on RidingEasy Records. Remastered from the band’s 1978 release. Austin’s first recorded punk band. Great songs, powerful sound. Recorded and mixed live to 2tk analog tape at Pecan St. Studios.

i remenber Chris Isack first Lp from a sister of a friend of mine ,the song that caught my attention was heart full of soul from yardbirds ,also a melancolic song , lie to me. There was a movie ,80´s style that a fake band and musician was killed and blue hotel was played in the movie like the bands sucess this filmed in a desert and 50´s era being showed at 80´s style ,but not a great movie, i don´t even remenber if i saw it all, i think this first album, had a great production ,because of others being filled with high´s and this sound especially good and a classic rock band as Blue Hotel was a hit at the time. Sun Ra was a speacially recorded sound at the time with his "Archestra" very "avant-gard"so to speak ,experimental jazz as Miles Davis in the early to late 70´s, if one had a good turntable with a good amplifier ,powerfull also good and huge speakers this was when played loud a really big trip as it was a time of not being sober for a long time, maybe one being happy all the time made one being more receptive to new ways of playing music at the time, also the Bird was never mentioned to have a substitute ,know one would dare to do so, i don´t know if already mentioned but my fathers kept albums came to me, only of what we call jazz and it´s variants are 7.000 lp´s i had not time to listen to them all and at least around a thousand extra i had them also but he had some very nice gems ,it even as a older type of vinil recording that he had a very old but well built turntable to hear those lp´s some were from my great grand father ,as an example Duke Ellington and no covers only plastic protected, i guess the original were made of paper and with the years they become destroyd as it happened with some of mine ,much more modern from the early 70´s , the label in the midle as the know dog with a victrola and saying "his master voice " or similar ,i can´t recall from memory all that i have listened in the last monthes ,also is dificult to me to touch is components as in hi-fi and also the records who i clearly remenber listening to them at home when a teenager since i was 7 he represent all that was Evil in my family´s life but after 40 years i talked to him again and in 5 years ,the last of his life we manage to talk maybe 7 times, this to not end up in a real fight, he was 92 but still very strong and died of a rotine exam done badly causing his death ,he suffured for 4 monthes before dying ,as it can happen to any age men in this type of medical exam if done badly. sorry for this unnecessary coment. Sun Ra is it a new edition ,i´ll look for it, the last two records i bought some years ago was a Sun Ra and fela kutti re-editions

Sun Ra is very avante gard. The record sounds good and the packaging is very nice. In time, I may develop a taste for the more free jazz. 🤗❤️ Thank you and take care.
