This is really inspiring ! I basically do the same kind of stuff when I write a song, only with a worse drum simulator, Garage Band, and actually micing my amp. But it was great to see you coming up with such a great sounding song in such a simple manner. I would love to see more of this series, and I would love to see you going from a simple song from start (like this video) to finish (vocals, chorus, bridge, other instruments, etc). Have a good time, and thank you !

Thank you for this. I use the Eleven Free plugin all the time. I just finished up a song where I recorded all the guitar tracks with it. Its a great little plugin when you're just trying to get an idea out on the fly and you record in a cramped bedroom that makes it hard to setup an amp and microphone (quickly). A good song doesn't need expensive gear to be good, it just has to be good.

Hey Warren, I believe that you would of done a lot of good if you said that the best thing to do (if possible) when recording a lot of guitar tracks, is to use a different guitar (or an different amp - even the vst one) for rhythm, lead, arp etc. It really helps the intelligibility of each track and brings out all of the guitars in the mix. Nobody really talks about that (except John Mayer in one of his interviews), and I had to learn that the hard way. Greets from Serbia, and keep up the good work!

So fun to watch and listen to you Warren. I am really diggin' the "Pro Tools riffs' you are sporting, with duplicating then using the copies, reversing the front and back acoustic, so cool, but the timing edits are what I need some instruction on and you use them quite quickly. I.e. when you correct and or substitute measures using the grid, time stretch or condense, just the pro tools edit functions used are a little over my head at times. Been with pro tools for several years now, but there is something new and more amazing each day. So, can you slow down on a 'tracking and editing' with PT's video for me. Thanks, tommyrad

The way I write and put my ideas together is very similar to this. It was cool to see someone that does it a little differently. It gives me some ideas. Good stuff, I hope it helps people that don't know how to start. I believe this is one of the best and fastest way to put your ideas together. Of course afterward you redo everything clean without the loops. Having a real drummer track on it helps gel everything together.

My first attempt at trying to put something together on a DAW created song for KZbin was not successful.. How did you edit the video and mix the video with the audio in Studio one professional ? I have dragged my video into the track, (I using windows 10 using both quicktime and Sony Playtimememories, BOTH work with getting the video audio in, but can't edit from there. meaning I have used the feature to extract the audio, but I cannot get my lead playing into that track with the backing track already in there. in presonus they state you can edit a track and even replace the audio completely and then put the video together with the new mix from studio one. Is there some place I can go and read this, or any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Help please.

I've never used Pro Tools and want to know if you can isolate tracks from a older song and loop it and slow the part down without changing the pitch so you can learn the song or section? Meaning for example can I load a Zeppelin, Van Halen or whomever onto my computer then using Pro Tools break that song's tracks down (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard) so it's the only part you hear and slow it down without changing the pitch? Also can you set that track up on a continuous loop so you don't have to keep restarting a part? I also would like to know if you can do that with Pro Tools is it possible to remove certain tracks and record my own tracks and use the other tracks. Such as say I wanted to remove the guitar or bass track from a older song and record my own parts while keeping all the other tracks (drums, guitar, bass, vocals)? If I can do this with Pro Tools which version would be best for doing that? Which system is better and Easier to use, PC or Mac? If I can't do this with Pro Tools does anyone know of Software or Device that can? Preferably one that's Dummy Proof or geared for Dummies, as that has my name all over it.

Warren, Awesome job at recording the track! I have a question though. If you were to want to create a scratch track to send to a drummer, how do you go about creating a scratch track? How do you go about making sure notes are in time, while keeping the original feel of the track? Anytime I start utilizing elastic time functions, it seems to lose the "feel" of the track, but I want a tight track for the drummer to record to. Any suggestions? As always, thank you for your advice!

Warren, what converters are using to track here? I see that you have AVID interfaces but they don’t seem to be monitoring what you’re recording so I assume they are not being used on this track? Looks like maybe the device between the two AVID interfaces is the interface/converters you’re using in this session. Is that a Lavry Blue? Would really appreciate your response as I’m having a hard time deciding on converters and I like the sound of this recording.

Sir, when I record my electric guitar via Amplitube 4, during overdriven or distorted section, too much amp noises I get. Is that a common thing? Any suggestion on that?

Hi, Warren, how are you doing? Great video! Is you Protools license HD? Do you honestly think upgrading do HD is worth for someone with limited income? I currently use Logic and I do like it, but I was thinking in getting the student license on Avid's website to get a verview on Protools since I've never used it. It would be better for me, since I wouldn't be limited on using only apple computers and everyone (from windows to mac users) uses Protools. Best regards from Brazil, Warren!

Hi Diogo, that's a big question! For me when I'm tracking a full band live I feel I need to use HD. But if I was just doing a vocal and mixing I probably would stay native. I hope that helps? Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

Fantastic Warren! Can you post a keyboard oriented version of this video as well (including how you do a keyboard bass and drums for A section, B sections, etc)? I've been doing this but for some reason I always feel that what I produce in my home studio are more demos than recordings that can go on an album of songs - best!

I noticed when you are playing back the guitar tracks that one of the tracks is still armed. Usually when I have a track still armed, I can't hear the playback of that track. How'd you do this? Would be super helpful when I'm doing vocal punch ins, etc. Thanks and marvellous channel!!

Hi Ink of the Dragon, great question! You can hear it when you are not in input, meaning when you are monitoring input you won't hear playback. So hit option K to toggle between input and playback of the track. Does that makes sense? Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

My ghetto fix for guitar buzz, grab a piece of thin gauge wire, strip the ends, loop it around something metal on your guitar (pickup switches works well) and loop the other end to your pinky finger to make yourself a human ground point. No more ground noise haha

Or get a EB Tech Hum Eliminator the 1/3 Rack Space one or the 1 unit Rack . IF you can still find them last I saw they have a WalWart that has the EB Hum Eliminator in it but I haven't tried it. But the Others Rack Units are AMAZING Best device since the BBE Sonic Maximizer. Great for Studio & Gigging at venues w/Dimmer's, bad wiring , Florescent lights…A Must for PA systems. As well as The BBE Sonic Maximizer for PA's Once you use it.. it's as though you took a Pile of Blankets off the Speakers!!!! Amazing even non Audio People can hear the Huge Difference. It don't add anything i.e. no sub harmonics like other companies that have products that do add Freq's that wasn't there before which can be a good tool i.e. the best like design is the Peavy Kosmo. Sadly they stopped making it. But the BBE Sonic maximizer it Time Aligns the Key Cross over Points L/M M/H . So After using that BBE I had to Flatten the EQ not Necessary in fact. I know one studio owner that has a BBE mounted under his desk so when he plays back the songs He Kicks in The BBE for the Over the TOP Wow factor. No matter how good the speakers…They do suffer this phenomenon the time alignments mess w/those Freq's that cross over at key points that cause cancelation of certain Freq. & or Phase Issues solved w/this One Product thats Not that expensive, I bought a Bunch of the Table top versions they made years ago. I have em stashed away. If my Rack one's Bit the dust.

Thanks for all the informative vids! I prefer to track my guitars through my amp as it makes up so much of my signature sound. I normally have an e906 on the grill, a stereo pair AKG 214's about 2 inches off, a SM27 about 2 ft away and a H&K red box line out. Gives me 5 all in time signals to mess about with.sometimes I only use maybe two, other times more.

Awesome. I really feel the vibe of that progression. By the way, what kind of drums sound would you go for in this style in particular? Probably a really up-front snare with a long reverb tail, followed by some really present kick and "warm" hi-hat? Thank you for your videos, I see you have a marvelous time teaching haha
