Recording Audio with the Canon XA-10

I like the video but have a problem with my Canon xa10 xlr when I plug in a xlr Mic to xlr channel one and record video I get only one side of audio is there a way to fix it?

What is "Line" mode for on the handle where Mic and Mic +48 is? If I use the H4N recorder, what mode should it be in - Line or Mic?

I have my camera connected via 1/4" cable into a Presonus sound mixer aux channel to get the mix I have set up. I'm getting audio but only as a mono and not stereo. Any help?

Select audio CH1 and not the Audio CH1/CH2, which very confusingly is dual mono!!

No audio is heard when it's in Ext. Where is it? Is it saved separately? I shot an important scene and noticed it while editing. Do I have to redo the scene or can I get the audio somewhere from the camera?
