I finally found a recording tutorial demonstration by real classical guitarist, not a crappy guitar sound. Thx Colin! The ozan plugin is interesting that I would like to try, but I am using iPad Pro. Do you know anything similar thing for iPad?
@colindeibertmusic

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! I don't know of a specific plugin as mobile platforms don't usually support them, however there is a more low tech hack that achieves "similar" results. Record a single mono track, then duplicate it, then drag one of the tracks back by only a few milliseconds so that they aren't perfectly aligned. Pan both tracks Left and Right and you have a pseudo stereo mix! Not quite as good as the ozone plugin but workable!
@Joseph-Lau

Colin Deibert Thx for reply. Yes, that’s one of the way, but a little tedious. I was thinking to use iPhone stereo mic which works like a reverb and mixing with my Rode USB mic.
@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
Actually something else you could try is to record using the iPad, export the dry track, and maybe download Reaper and the ozone plugin on desktop and mix the song in Reaper. I used to do a similar workflow on my iPad.

Colin Deibert Well, I am trying to avoid my desktop computer (iMac) for many years since it wasn’t working. My iPad becomes my major workstation for music, especially the forScore for reading music. I understand that iPad has its limitations in audio processing, so I am seriously considering to get an audio interface for my pair for AKG C451b mic.

Thanks! Not really, for KZbin vids I just raise the levels by ear but if I was doing a real recording I’d add a limiter and adjust the levels in mastering. I just shoot for preserving as much dynamic range as possible.

It´s an option if you don´t want to buy two small-diaphragm condenser mics. Is it possible to find some stereo small-diaphragm condenser mic? I´ve thought in SHURE SM81 with a zoom H5 for classical guitar but it´s two mic SHURE SM81 is too much money. Any advice would be apreciated.

Thank you for this- I didn't hear what type of mic you were using- should we just suppose it's a condenser mic? I'm trying to evaluate dynamic and ribbon mics for recording guitar- wondering what type you were using- thanks
@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
In the description its a Lewitt Audio 441 Flex which is a multipattern large diaphram condenser mic! It's in cardioid for this video. For classical guitar I probably wouldn't use a dynamic because of their lack of sensitivity, they work just not ideal. I'd say the majority of recordings are either Small or Large Diaphragm Condenser mics, just because of their sensitivity and sound profile. Ribbons are excellent for classical guitar as well, however, you'll have to keep in mind they general cost way more than LDC or SDCs and generally need a ton of gain for them to keep the noise down when recording. Hope this helps!

Great video!, I have a problem recording my classical Guitar, I use a pair of Samson CO2 and a Behringer Uphoria UM-2 interface, and I record on Reaper, but there is a hiss noise always present even if I turn all the way down the mic gain or there is no Micro pluged at all. Why is this happening? and how can I fix it? Please I would like you to help me, I'm desperate :(
@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That’s really hard to diagnose. Do you use headphones or studio monitors? Does the hiss get recorded? If so, would it be possible to send a .wav file of the noise to my email? colindeibertmusic@gmail.com

Hi Colin, I'm using a pair of these Samsons. Not getting any hiss but I'm finding them waaay overkill on the treble. Is it worth lowering gain on the 12th fret mic? Any advice much appreciated.

Hi Colin, just to wanted to say - great job and great content on your channel. I really enjoyed your recording tips since decided myself to upgrade my gear and software. However I've got question - you recorded on one mic (single channel mono) yet I can see it (around 2:06) stereo two channels. How that's possible?
@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! Oh that's something that happens sometimes when you render a solo mono track out through a stereo mix bus! The track is entirely mono, but the waveform will show up looking like a stereo track but with equal information on both the Left and Right, and equal info on both channels equals a mono track.
@MarekPasieczny
@MarekPasieczny 3 жыл бұрын
@@colindeibertmusic I see, so you rendering mono track to stereo then editing through additional plug-inn's. But you did record using input 1, mono settings, right? (otherwise it would be only left side)
@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
I just did a quick bounce and it defaulted to that because I believe I recorded it in Studio One but needed to edit it in Reaper for the vid 😅 Correct! I recorded just through input one as a Mono track. Interfaces only default input 1 to the left if you create a stereo track, because 1+2 become your stereo.

So what are you recording your video with and how are you combining your video to your audio?
@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I’m recording my video with my Canon M50, and the audio is being recorded simultaneously by the camera but also my good mic straight into my DAW and that’s the audio your hearing! I record both so that in post I can just auto sync in Premiere and replace the bad camera audio with my great audio.

How to record classical guitar using lapel mic? Is it okay to use lapel mic for classical guitar?
@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I really wouldn't try and record guitar with a lapel. It is possible but not ideal. If you need to pick up vocals and guitar at the same time I would just get a large diaphragm mic and position it to capture both. Hope that helps!

I'm a bit confused. Why/how does the focusrite only record in mono, while recording through something like the Behringer Xenyx 302usb produces a stereo track?
@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
No problem! It’s not really the interface that’s mono, it’s the fact that I only used one mic. If you record with one mic its mono, and two mics its stereo. Sometimes a DAW will let you create a “stereo” track with only one mic connected, but unless you’re recording two mics simultaneously it’s not actually stereo.

@colindeibertmusic
@colindeibertmusic 3 жыл бұрын
No real reason, but I don't think I normalized this track just because I like to mix the audio for these videos in post, so that way my dialogue and the DAW audio are somewhat comparable and I don't risk clipping audio between plugins and my screen recording software. Thanks!
