It's really good to see at least one part of the world seems to still retain quite a healthy recording studio culture. I'm old enough to remember when it seemed like almost every town and city in the UK had a decent studio or two, from small project/demo establishments to world class, state of the art places. Lots of these seem to have disappeared these days, but from your videos the LA/SoCal area seems to be thriving. Thanks for all the videos, I practically salivate over all that marvellous equipment. Although I die a little inside every time I see a Space Echo, should never have sold mine despite it being a pain to maintain.

Billy - when your were just starting out - what were the 3 most difficult tasks to learn? Mic selection and placement? EQ? Compression? Side chaining?
@Hybridstudiosca
@Hybridstudiosca 9 жыл бұрын
Fezzler61 Thanks for the question! Nothing I'd say was hard to learn because I enjoyed learning about it all. I used to read and solve people's problems on the DUC for fun lol If you don't mind me answering the top 3 things I've come to learn the importance of, it'd have to be: accurate/good acoustics save a TON of time, keeping an artist relaxed is the difference between a performance and a take, and not get caught up in the small details. Hope that's somewhat informative, thanks again for the question!

I really enjoy these studio tours. I especially like the snapshots of the various gear. Many of your videos start with your guest leaning on the console. I was thrilled to hear some of the console’s history. It would be fun to hear more about how the use the consoles and interact with their DAW in all of your studio tours.

That Ampeg SVT head looks like it's from the 70s. You mentioned reverb, Warren? I think one of the best in-head guitar reverbs ever made is found in a 70s Ampeg V4, which looks very similar to that old SVT head. I have a B25B head (more of a B15 flavour) sitting in NV waiting to bring over (to Australia) and it is a whopping 50lb unboxed! Thanks again for sharing your experiences! It's great to get an inside look at both the people and the studios in your circle. Orange County looks like another great place to work. Cheers

Warren, great video!! Keep em' coming dude!! I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on the Heritage Audio 73EQ JR's vs the BAE B15's? I'm thinking of getting 6 of the HA 73EQ JR's for my lunchbox should I get the B15's instead? HELP ME MAKE A DECISION!!!! They cost about the same the B15's being one dollar more. The problem with buying EQ Pre's is I can't demo them so I have to trust blokes like yourself! Thanks in advance! Cheers mate!

Great stuff as usual! I'm still baffled about how so many young engineers can own SO MANY gear, and such big studios. I don't even get down by the fact that he doesn't seem to show he knows how to use all the stuff because this is very subjective, but it is kind of strange to see a young man responding "yeah well... Hmmm, huh..." When warren is talking about hundreds of thousands of equipment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging, just baffled, because I love making records and every piece of 57 I have it was a struggle to get, do I think I'd be a bit more excited to talk about a studio like this if I had one. Again, no pun intended! Thank you for the video Warren!

because its a good studio with a great live room? Why would you care as an artist how many tracks they have as long as they have enough to accommodate what you are doing its a none issue

@smeltnight2002 8 жыл бұрын
+Howard Shillingford They use 50 tracks sometimes, but there's no reason to run them through a board like that. Mixing rap outside the box is just wasting time. They were saying that during tracking they would only be using one channel at a time (which is correct).

Hi +David Meyers Thanks for your comment! I was working a Hip Hop session a few years ago and the Artist made that joke! Now even Rock is beginning to do that! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
