for me this feature is massive because I use reaper to mix live shows with a control surface. I can now record the inputs but have tracks with FX going through the PA. It makes reaper the perfect live show powerhouse!

Thank you. Kenny, you could take this a stage further and show the midi routing from a track to Kontakt then audio routing back from Kontact to the same midi track. The Kontakt track has the master send off, the project | Advanced | Allow feedback in routing is checked, and everything is sent pre-FX.

Thanks Kenny...as usual, a great tutorial and very relevant. Could you please put together a tutorial on using ReaInsert? Many of us have old analogue and early digital rack effects which we would like to use as effects in Reaper...no one knows and understands Reaper like you do!!! Thanks for all the videos you have put out which help us all!!!

Great vid. I actually use this. I have a problem though. This stops me from using another DAW as a VST and doing this same thing in the video. I use the MPC software to make music then I export all the audio into reaper. I would like to use the MPC software as a VST but when I do the software audio skips when trying to do this. It seems as if my audio when im trying to record tracks jumps when i press record then it kicks in about a second after. Doesnt happen all the time but it does happen 1 out of 5 times. What can I do to stop this?

Kenny, thanks for the video! My question goes back to WHY would one to go through the trouble of exploding a neatly compacted, single media track into a bloated multi tracks of individual drums? I think you demonstrated in a previous video how mixing, effects can be done on the channel level within a track? Alternatively, most midi drum vsts such as MODO drum already have a mixing console within, with individual effects. To me, exploding a single track into multiple ones is a step backwards... So please explain the WHY part better? Pros and cons? Again, this is for recording and mixing midi drums. I understand the use case for real drums with several mics, is different... Thanks again for this and all other videos!
@asator05052 жыл бұрын
i was wondering the same. although i can see why it is easier and maybe beneficial to your work flow to have everything ready in the mixer so that you dont have to open your plugin everytime. also: you can put different effects on the different tracks. sometimes i like to use a different compressor for the snare than i use for the kick and yeah, that way, i can easily do it and with plugins that arent native to my drum-plugin
@XxDarkXxXSasuxX2 жыл бұрын
Well I'm not super advanced in mixing drums yet, but one of the first things that jumps at me is being able to do the same thing in different ways. But also, while perhaps you could use the mixing console within the drum plugin to do the majority of your drum work in isolation, what about sending individual drums to other tracks? For instance, if you want to sidechain compress another track using your hi-hats so that they cut through the mix better without the rest of your drums blasting everything out of context, you would need separated tracks, etc. It just offers up more options when everything is separated.

If you can get the sound you want in one track, go for it. Many people like a bit more control and a REAPER fader for each. It's not better. Just different.
@googlesucks13762 жыл бұрын
Might be a need to render out the audio tracks - pre fader and prefx to some other person and want them to use the samples you have. That way they get the raw drum sounds of your samples and not anything you were doing when doing your mix. Also might be instances where other systems don't handle MIDI - say someone that wants to mix solely out of the box and just uses a multitrack hard disk recorder thru a traditional console. Seems silly nowadays but I have clients that do it. It gives them that "warmth" of analog - tho they could just use Reaper and turn up the bass a bit...

The reason why I want Kenny to spend more time at the begining of these video gems explaining the why/pros/cons, is because there are lots of beginners that would do something just because "Kenny said so in video XXX", misusing Reaper, creating suboptimal, cluttered recordings.

Hi Kenny, Great Tutorial as always.....but, just want to make sure I am understanding correctly......if i'm in the control room and I am tracking, I want to track the raw incoming audio to a track without any FX applied, but, from the mixing window I want to assign/apply FX as needed and control the output of the channel (fader) to the master in a monitoring arrangement.... acting as a split console in the analog world....(record raw data to the daw with the output of each track back into the console channel where i eq, compress...etc until I'm ready to print back to a track in the DAW.) Is this what you are describing?

Very good video kenny!! Thanks so much as always and also for the sonobus video!! This will rlly help with my drum mixing. Ah, i have another question kenny, im not as good as a guitarist as i think i am so i mess up a whole lot when i record, and coming from other apps, i always just ctrl-z the failed take away. However, the wav file of that take is still saved somewhere and it ends up flooding my storage!! I was wondering how to counter this..maybe i should just get better at guitar, but im sure ill have a failed take inevitably. Any tips?

I realize this is off topic, but I've had Breaktweaker for two months and still haven't figured out how to record into Reaper. I setup the proper multichannel routing, but when I hit record, the Breaktweaker preset stops playing and I record 6 tracks of nothing. It's the most maddening thing I've ever experienced and customer service help is not available. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nice T Shirt!! But seriously... I see, I made a crazy beat in RMX with only the echoes/delays in different notes on 100%, had all the Masters off feeding into a track via aux sends and recorded as a wave...no I see why the levels were a bit off. Faders into Faders. Nice music like some I do.
