Recording your Loops is THIS easy | RC-505 mk2 Tutorial

Today we're gonna learn how to route and record any instrument from the RC-505 mk2 to your DAW of choice.
I'll be demonstrating on Ableton in this video but thr process should be pretty much the same for any other DAW.

Well explained, I own a RC600 which is internally identical to the 505mk2. I already discovered the audio interface function, really helpful for live recordings (see my live videos on my channel), but didn't know about the storage function yet, this turns the device into a powerful production machine!

on the mkII you have multiple outputs, if you carefully split the track # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 routing to main / sub 1&2 / sub 3&4 you can record via usb the separate tracks from the loop station (three stereo channels 1&2, 3&4, 5&6 + one stereo channel 7&8 which is the phoners output) - or you cand use the outputs as mono and have 6 mono channels and the phones out stereo)

@@tastecratecouk7513 Hey Phil sorry I've just seen your comment hidden here. So it's pretty straight forward my friend, just a matter of connecting a 1/4 inch cable from one of the RCs outputs (MAIN for example) into your speaker of choice. As for which speaker, I would highly recomment you researching a little about speaker types, sizes and brands for the kind of set you want as there are many for different budgets. Thank you for this video :-) maybe you should choose a stereo in ( e.g. 1/2 ) in Ableton otherwise you are capturing just one side of a potential stereo playback.

Is there a “count in” feature on the MK2 like on the original RC-505? I’ve look all over the place and have not been able to find any info/videos about this. I know the original had the feature and could be set to count in 1 measure.

Bit late here, but yes there is. You can simply do this by pressing the start/stop button without anything playing

What if you select sub out on the rc505? Will you then be able to use the master out on the loopstation and route the subs into ableton? Ive been using the setting 'Line out on the rc505 and this way I was able to get 8 channels separately into Ableton. Didn't know about the loop in function so now I donwhich is great, thanks ;)

I can’t get autorec to work on a loop when I play a note from my keyboard that comes out of Ableton live. when I record a loop autorec with the microphone no worries, it starts when a sound comes out. can you tell me if there is a specific configuration. thank you for your help. you rock

I have a problem: I routed my outputs to separate tracks, but most track FX are not beeing recorded. Only Beat scatter and a few more work. But no filters. Why is that??

Same For me dude! Iv'e try every way possible and look for long but no solution founded...to mee It seems to be a conception prob with this device. It cant manage multiple tfx routing on separate tracks by now, its too complex. Maybe with a new upgrade from Roland boss. let's hope and write them 😉

Hi Arthur great tutorial , I have.a question I have the MK2 and I use the 10.13 High SIerra Mac OS and in the website the drivers comes only for Catalina witch is the 10.15 and above I just bought the machine and I when I connect via usb it regonize the MK2 but I don't have any driver to install , do you know if it works without a driver for High Sierra or is not supported , I search on the web also ask in boss support but no answer from them yet , I am using reaper and no sound come from the mic , with Ableton Live it comes sound bur very bad quality and also I have a trial Ableton so I can not record . I want to use the usb midi because I have lots of virtual instrument that I use in reaper with my midi keyboard and I want to loop those instruments also , if you can help me with this it will be great thanks

Hey there! As far as I know you actually can connect it straight away. If it's a condenser mic it's a just a matter of turning on the phantom power for the desired input

Hey arthur Thanks for the knowledge brother! Im facing an issue which is driving me insane. On my mk2 usb settings inhave vendor on and loop in as a usb settings. I can hear the sound feom ableton via phones jack from the looper but i cant record the sounds on the looper. Its clearly recieving the signal but not recording. Any word of advice would be helpful. Hey man glad to help! You can try and play with the metronome on, this way you can press record on the 2nd beat and it will wait until the end of the measure before recording, giving you some time to go back to the guitar. If that doesn't fit you I recommend getting a midi footswitch so you can tap record with your feet. That will definitely wield the best results. The boss fs-6 seems to be a pretty popular option.

Hey Thierry. Yep it's totally possible. Although if you're already hearing it thru the looper it should be just a matter of pressing the rec/play button. Take a look on my Gig Performer video, it may help a bit. Cheers :)

Hey. I've seen some people complaining about noise on the background. Check if your cables are good and maybe consider buying new premium cables. Usually that solves the problem :)

Hey there! Totally possible. Just a matter of setting some virtual instruments on your midi keyboard and hitting record on the DAW/Loopstation

@@valbbx2381 Yes. So actually the line out routing is used when recording external instruments like a guitar, bass or singing into a mic. In your case you should leave it as loop in so you can hear all your pc sounds through the RC. Pc sounds = virtual instruments. Even though a midi keyboard looks like an external instrument it is not because it uses pc sounds to trigger the samples. So yeah audio mode = vendor, routing = loop in. Also menu > output > routing. Make sure phones out are not set to individual. Hope that helps :)

it should be the other way around, make loops in Ableton and transfer them to the RC505 for live switching of materials made w/Ableton as Ableton is most capable of music production...but a burden for live.

Really helpful video. Just responding to the comment that you can't route tracks from the looper into separate tracks in Ableton. Yes! I've actually came across this same video a few weeks back and I'll definitely make one doing this same routing on the RC 505. It is possible but with some limitations, like you can't route all the 5 tracks. Only 3 if I recall correctly

@@LoopArtist Ben Dunn definitely succeed in recording each track into a separate channel, and Yes Boss RC 505 mkII supports it if you have the driver installed and tracks routed correctly, you just didn't find this functionality and in your video you say that this is not possible.
