Absolutely lovely. That's the kind of recording engineer/studio owner you want around on a session: modest, calm, no bull, and a connoisseur of his own gear, mics, and rooms. 👍🏻👍🏻 Also, he basically has Syd Barrett's famous floorboards on the walls of that big booth... and that alone is a good enough reason to book a session there and work with him. 😉

Beautiful room and a fascinating insight into drum mic choices and the reasons behind them. Ideally, would have liked to have heard more variation in the drum patterns Jack was playing - vary the tempo and dynamic some more so we can hear the differences. Great video, subscribed.

really nice! would have been cool to see what the overhead 4038 was pointing at when they were discussing his altered Glyn Johns setup! Can see the snare mic firing horizontally over the snare later on, in my experience this yields a sizzly hifi sound, which sometimes though can lack midrange focus. Also what processing is committed, I can hear some compression and at the end they show a Distressor working...

I have a modern technique with no tom mics. Using an offset pedal to position to kick directly in front of the snare, a single overhead stereo Townsend mic is positioned directly over my head for the main recording. The kick is reinforced with a single U47 type mic positioned 3 feet from the bass drum. The bass drum is a 24“ x 24” double headed 0.8 mm single ply drum, custom-made. An additional stereo overhead/room in front of the drumset with the bottom rolled off to add extra control of the cymbals. The kick drum has a contact mic for attack and the second floor has it’s own condenser mic. Six channels of drum mics in total. Absolutely no phase issues whatsoever.
