You're a genius. My grandson's 7.4V 3500maH lipo 2 cell battery would not charge (red charging light flashed on then went green as if full, but volts only 2.5V). So I bought another charger (GT Power A3) with same result. So I bought another lipo battery which did the same thing, the red charging lights would not come on though voltage 3.5V. None of the ideas I found on KZbin looked feasible and needed technical expertise and a soldering iron. I was in despair when I read your article explaining that balanced lipo chargers will not "see" or charge a flat battery. So I brought out an old NiMH 9v battery charger and connected it to the battery's big outlet wires using my voltmeter leads - red to red and black to black. I checked the battery voltage every 30 min, after about 3 hours it got to 6V. When I connected the Lipo balanced charger, on came the red charging lights and the batteries (I now have 2!) are behaving normally. Dude, I can't thank you enough, in spite of me explaining the cure came from you, my grandson thinks that I am the genius round here. I am surprised you only have 12 likes, I would make it 2000 !!!

Worked on my 5000 4 cell!! One cell was completely dead, it’s charging now. Had it hooked up for less than a minute, ID charger blinked dead unhooked it plugged it back in to ID and hit start right away and it’s charging. Thanks!!!!

I just took my dremel with a tiny engraving/grinding bit and shave those two blocks out that was preventing the LIPO plug in so I didn't have to open the charger case and pull the board out.

I use a similar method for really dead lead acid car batteries. When a really dead car battery won't charge with an expensive roll around charger because the charger won't recognize the battery. I use jumper cables to connect a fully charged battery to the dead battery for 15 minutes then connect the roll around charger to both batteries and it will charge. Then I can load test the formerly dead battery to determine it's CCA

My battery wouldn’t even register on the traxxas charger when I plugged it in. I did this with a different NIMH charger I had for 3 minutes and plugged it in and it at least registered it. Plugging it back in for a little longer now. Sick PK in the background. I’ve got a big flyer and a big ripper myself. Had a Quadangle growing up. Thanks for the video.

Anyway lipo nimh charger other then traxxas will work we been doing this for years... NEVER LEAVE THESE ALONG only need a minute or 2 on nimh mode just to kick start the charging process.. cool video man

I've bought a slash 4x4 vxl, and a trx4 high trail both RTR and neither came with that charger. Both were factory sealed boxes brand new from a hobby shop

That's interesting. This does only come with brushed models though, that come with the nickel battery included. The real basic RTR that come with nickel battery kits.

My 2s lipo battery is not that old and I was having the same problem, when connected to the id charger It wouldn't charge and only a red light would blink. I noticed that if I slightly pulled up on the cable while connected, it read the battery. So in my case all I did was plug in my battery and set the battery on top of the charger so that the connection is slightly pulled up. I think my problem is that it wasn't making good contact.

Sometimes batteries will be cool for a few months but sometimes over night they are done, it depends how low you run them while running your RC, also the age of the battery, a few factors. Good luck though, hope your battery comes back to life. I'm scared to check my batteries. I'll do it tomorrow yikes.

I just use a good battery, even use 2c batteries to jump dead 3c batteries enough for it to be picked up by the good traxxas live charger. 15 secs is all it takes to make the live charger recognize them.

@@StreetInfluenced kinda dangerous, but just take wire match it color to color from a good battery to the "dead" or non responsive battery for say 15-30 seconds. If you have a dual live charger it then recognize it and begin the balance / charge of the "dead" battery. After jumping it immediately plug in to the charger and see if it recognizes its there / lipo

Depends how long your battery has been dead for and sitting. Sometimes they won't come back to life even with this method. but I would say if in 1 hour it doesn't get any life in it, the battery is probably unrecoverable.

What is the part number for that cheap charger? 4s 1 cell .7v the other 3 3.7v. Any danger in cell exploding?

I think when rigging anything up, there does pose danger. This charger you should be able to find on the traxxas website, it comes with all the RTR kits, it's the car charger.

I am currently trying this. However I took a dremel and knocked the 2 tabs out of the bottom of the cigarette charger. Its what was stopping the I'd plug from going in.

If it doesn't work within a few hours, chances are your cell is completely dead. Trickle charger may also work but that's extra money.

Yikes, 2 years is a long time buddy. But you can try you never know. Never recommend leaving any type of battery sitting that long.

Did not work with my 2200mah, Just had it unused for 3 months, it is a shame, the Red Light is flashing meaning check fuse, I suppose that lipo is gone. What I really do not understand is why you can leave your old lipo cell phone in the closet for 2 years, plug it in your charger, and charge it with no problem as if it had never been out of use.

That might be an issue with your vehicle? Check with like a phone charger to make sure they are getting power. Or you traxxas car charger might be broken.

Did anyone just get a red flashing light from the Nimh charger? It doesn’t turn solid green, flash green or turn solid red….just flashing red (which indicates an error)

In my experience it can take several hours to bring up the voltage with the NiMH charger (must be greater than the nominal battery voltage) - check every 30 min until near that voltage and then try the LiPO balanced charger.

A) the voltage of the NiMH must be above the battery normal voltage B) you have to apply NiMH charger for long enough (under strict supervision of course) to bring the battery to within the charging threshold for the LiPO charger to recognise it. This can take several hours.

Sorry that happened to you, what I've learned is sometimes you can't recover the batteries at all and it's a total loss, usually for me this works or if it doesn't work I'll test the battery with trickle charging and it's usually just a dead battery.
