The last couple of episodes have really highlighted the tension between efficiency and resiliency. This is really good for the game (and for the content) because it means that there is no one optimal set up to just set up and walk away from. Hunting down and fixing weak points in systems is an important part of scaling up even if it isn't as "cool" as planning a new expansion area or industrial zone. Another great episode!

Hi, I am not sure if you are understanding the small containerstands correctly. I think you might be heavily overbuilding them. Here is what I figured out: waste trucks for small container stands stationed in the technical office will go on a tour and stop at multiple container stands until they are full. That means that they will go to the first container stand, but the technical office can assign them to additional stops if they are not full after they have done their first stop. So they can go to stop one (that stop, the dropoff and the technical office are shown in the stop list), then after picking up waste there, the technical office can assign them to another stand to pick up waste from another stand (stop two) -- again stop two, the dropoff and technical office will be in the list now, but the truck never actually stopped at the dropoff inbetween. In the end, this means that you can use much bigger trucks for small container stands here, up to 10t I think, whereas the big container trucks are 6.5t. What is important to realize is that it cannot pick up different types of waste to what it has already loaded. I am not super sure, it the following is 100% true, but I believe it is even important that you do not have too many small container trucks now, because if you do, the technical office will send them all out, whenever there is one stand that needs picking up. But what you really want is that one truck is out on tour and the stand that is "full" (I dont quite know the threshold, when a containerstand is asking for a truck to come) and no truck is empty and waiting at the technical office. Then, the technical office will wait for that truck to have finished picking up, so it can be reassigned to the next stand.. that way the waste collection will be efficient. So it really is not about the number of stands, but more about figuring out how many trucks you need and the number of trucks in the technical office is not a good indicator. Instead, you want to use the waste overlay to see what the waste levels are and get additional trucks if they are consistently too high.

Not quite...the TS doesn't assign the multi pickup until a certain threshold of the stand...as in it doesn't empty all of them at once, it only empties the ones that are full enough...if you only use 1 stand with many 0.12 t containers, then you will always have tiny amounts... using multiple stands means that you can have at least larger amounts ever time a truck comes out, and longer fill times in between. The TS is supposed to be smarter than that, but it hasn't really worked well since they added the feature...

@@bballjo I know for sure that waste trucks can do 10+ stops. I tested this. Easiest way to test, do not build container stands and see what happens with the truck driving to different houses.... I think what is easy to understand and forget is how the waste trucks get assigned pickup jobs... Whenever there is a sufficiently filled container stand / container at a building, closeby technical services will "immediately" look for a waste truck to pick that up. It either A. finds a waste truck that is i. not full, and ii. currently going to the dropoff location or the technical services building, and iii. is currently not transporting a different type of waste (it might also include proximity to the destination, I do not know), or B. find an empty waste truck in the technical services building, or C. waits and goes back to A. later. So if you have a lot of waste trucks, it will very often grab a new waste truck from the technical services, because it does not find a truck currently avaliable ... i.e. it falls through A. If you have "few" waste trucks, it will not find a truck at all (C.) but once a truck finishes picking up at a container stand, it immediately gets reassigned to a different container stand because A. I actually found this to work quite reliably in testing... And what you are experiencing typically happened, when I had too many waste trucks....

​@@nw2372You can finetune waste trucks your way. But if repairs are happening or winter is slowing things down, you can easily run into pollution problems. Not worth it imho. What I really like and showed in my tutorial bellow is to have decent "waste collection yard" (I personally love 2x30 big containers; one for sortedf waste, second for mixed only) just outside of the city. There will all the half-full waste trucks go with any load between 0,5-6t and unload there. Then you have a DO with big waste trucks that will pick up from these and actually drive EVERY TIME with FULL TRUCK to waste´s final destination. Pluses: - you can have spare capacity of trucks (for service issues etc). - you do not have much of wasted full on less-filled garbage trucks - you have a buffer in case of a problem with waste separation/burning not working (like machinery replacement in waste separation etc.) - you can pre-sort in containers effectively and not care about truck picking "only" 0,24t of metal waste. - looks cool and works in a similar way irl (sort of, basically for any waste except the ordinary house waste this works in CZ/SK like this with sorted/oversized/hazardous waste). Give it a try

I’m enjoying having to decide which industries must be set up as ‘No Fail’ industries. And that resilience can be achieved through ‘multiple redundancy’ or through strong fire and reconstruction services.. My personal preference on my own republic is to try to have 1 dedicated reconstruction office paired with each fire station. So the reconstruction helps prevent disaster by keeping buildings in good condition and also can help repair after a fire. I also allow fire helos to provide coverage at the frontiers where we are stretching out to develop new lands.

Was gonna comment on why the train was not repairing in an earlier episode but forgot about it by the time I finished. You can’t imagine the amount of satisfaction I got once I saw you figure it out 😂

You have loads of high earnings potential industry, seems your biggest problem is still population to man it. I highly recommend people build the medical university after the small headquarters one . I also researched the pollution filters as the first chain in the tech uni when I built it. I have also kept up to date with the vaccine and population boost research. Now I have copious amounts of supper sims, that I can use and abuse as required, even taking the place of machinery in construction projects. Biggest problem for me at the moment is building houses fast enough to keep up with the boom.

Yeah...I'm still not certain which university should come first, assuming vanilla will add smaller sizes of each soon...the HQ really doesn't give me much right away...the technical U gives DOs and industries, but medical helps with population growth and health...it still feels like most will want the DOs as fast as possible, or plan for a lot of "wait until" space...

@@bballjo The small HQ gives you your first higher educated workers, at half the price of the larger ones. Was important for me, as I was trying to play without taking a loan. Almost succeeded, but had to take a 300k ruble loan, after purchasing my first train and not paying attention the steel imports going on. I was too busy riding the rails in first person view, admiring all my hard work lol

Exactly, the small HQ is only good because it's the only small option, which is why I said more vanilla sizes are needed, as the HQ didn't have real research benefits IMO.

I think the three research trees should be split into basic and advanced, so you still have to build the larger ones to finish the research tree for the three different types.@@bballjo

@@bballjoTo correct you - HQ is the one giving you DOs, not TU. And fire prevention. And high quality buildings (after TU researchers). And helps you with loaylity researches (you cannot influence loyalty without it through TV/radio). Definitely a usefull one.

I think the republic is ready for a TV station to boost happiness and loyalty. That would get the productivity up and you make your money

Don't forget, they will only watch TV or radio, and only 1 station...so I don't think it would add much at this point

@@bballjo I knew that there was no reason for more than one radio or television station in the whole republic because they'll just compete with each other, but I didn't realize TV and radio also worked in the same mutually exclusive manner. Does that mean you should just never, ever build a TV station? (From a purely functional point of view, of course)

Dude I had to write make Asphalt road 1 person will reach and solve all ur fire problems...on gravel road fire truck goes 60 Max so it takes more time to reach a place Asphalt u go 100 so u reach faster

I don't think being able to destroy construction waste is a bug - it has a positive monetary value. The only waste I've seen being undestroyable is stuff that costs money to export

Hello bro I am thuhill from India I have been playing workers and resources for past 1 year But having trouble in figuring out the railway I use a 10 railway track custom house (mod) The main problem is utilizing all the tracks for unloading my cargo My setup is so bad that it uses only 2 tracks and trains have trouble getting back other than that the other part of the railway is so efficient and i use a four track main line 2 single direction Can you help me out with this As I have built this city over 2 months and have a very nice harbor setup . I just don't want railway to make this city look bad.
