Thank you for this recipe. Have you ever made a gel like Shine and Jam or a Murray's Edge wax type? I have used your edge control recipe when braiding and twisting, but I keep tryng to make something that has more hold but locks in moisture and provides shine like shine and jam for long term protective styles and to also keep hair "tame" the hair under protective styles. Any suggestions on how to add something to your edge control recipe?

This is insane, I've tried making my own gel last friday and didn't really like the end result... And now you come out with this?! Thanks ❤️❤️ If I'd ad pvp and for example guar gum to flaxseed gel, would that mean it gives a better hold? I want to make a natural based gel but with an insane amount of hold! I'm also curious how you know how much to use. I really want to replicate the uncle funkies curl magic gel!

I've made very similar gels before but don't get the gooey quality. The only thing I've changed from your recipe is using a different pH adjuster such as l-Argenine or Baking soda, substituting the PVP for honey and sugar to create hold, and opting for oils instead of glycerin. Carbomer gel by itself doesn't provide a gooey consistency so what would you say makes yours so gooey?

I'm pretty sure that is what the polysorbate 20 was for (to help the Olive oil mix with the water base) in the ECO Gel. But Elise chose to leave the olive oil out of her DIY Gel, I assume, to avoid needing to use the polysorbate.

But you could always try adding citric or lactic acid at the final step to adjust the PH. I havent worked with this specific formulation so I can't speak to weather or not it can hold its structure with an acidic PH, but I would assume it is fine. The article Elise wrote to go with this video also states that you can add these things in if you choose to. But be careful, a little goes a long way.
