The demographic for that fitness magazine is for people that are trying to change their bodies (and compete in bikini competitions) so yes, they are going to focus on working out & getting results. Most people that compete only prep/train for a few months (because they don't train/eat like that all year). A fitness magazine promoting to people that are wanting to be fitness experts or care about their fitness shouldn't be offending people that don't care about their fitness. Its not directed at everyone... Nothing is going to be marketed/targeted towards everyone. As a personal trainer I'm struck most by the HERS magazine cover. I especially loved your thoughts on how it's not a race. A lot of people give up because they think they need to get fit FAST, but really that's not what it's about. However, I will say the sculpting a butt and legs part. As someone that can appreciate the science and work ethic it takes to BUILD muscles I don't think that's a negative title. People can be beautiful at any shapes or sizes, but people can't be healthy at any shapes or sizes. In some ways, the body positivity movement can be kinda shamey about women who want to change their bodies for purely aesthetic reasons, without understanding that wanting to lose weight (for example) doesn't need to come from a place of self hatred or self punishment, and doesn't mean that the way I think about my body necessarily applies to how I think about others (not that it really matters anyway)

And I've been a big girl all my life. Not that it changes the sentiment of why you wanted to change it but the "Sex and the Younger Man" was written by Candace Bushnell who was the author of "Sex and the City" so it was just a play on words for that. (for the Harper's Bazaar magazine)

ok but ppl that want healthy recipes or workouts just want to be healthy they arent nessessarily not confident

Girl, this is my favorite series of yours. You always NAIL it, but there’s also so much heart in it 😊
@jax4225 жыл бұрын
I feel like some of the titles you changed were more body positive, but completely threw health and fitness out the window and encouraged unhealthy habits. I think there needs to be a better balance. Like I think it’s ok to be a size 20 and body positive and love yourself, but you also have to realize NO BODY is healthy at a size 20 and you should strive to be the healthiest and fittest you can be. You can be body positive and still strive for self improvement.

I agree 100%, even though I myself am not the perfect weight I try to make a limit for myself personally and then stay within it or make it lower if I succeed.

Mitsu Hiko right. Likes it’s ok to be overweight and love yourself, but it’s not ok to lay on your couch and eat McDonalds all day regardless of what size you are. I think some people forget that when promoting body positivity and unintentionally endorse morbid obesity. Instead of changing the articles to remove all notions of fitness and exercise from the article titles, she should have changed the reason for going. Bad article: How to workout to cut weight fast Better article: How to workout to feel energized for your day

Jackie While I see your point, your statement of “no body at a size 20 can be healthy” is completely false. I’m a size 24 and guess what? My insides, my body, is perfectly healthy. I’ve gone to the doctor and do yearly tests to ensure it. Being bigger doesn’t always mean unhealthy. Don’t make statements that generalize.
@teamaeblue8965 жыл бұрын
Totally disagree that no size 20 is healthy that’s the equivalent of saying no size 0-2 can be healthy. I agree most size 20 probably would benefit from some weight loss but I know some very healthy size 20. Think of different breeds of horses Arabian to Clydesdale we are all different

Wait... “the original clickbait” is magazines. That is TOO TRUE!!
@dinkyboss5 жыл бұрын
Alexandra Schroeder idk if it’s click bait to say hey this magazine contains an article about sex and then has an article about sex though. Idk if I get her logic on that one. I’m assuming by click bait she meant they’re claiming one thing on the cover and the article has nothing to do with it. Like if they said “cool new sex techniques to try on your younger man!” but the article inside is about how to make flan lol

I'm the same age as Sierra, and I'm also a full time wheelchair user. I've been active my whole life, doing different sports, and working out, but in my teens I got extremely depressed by the fact that I could never be thin, and I thought I was lazy and out of shape... Now it's all about fitness again, and I'm healthier than ever, both in body and in mind ❤

I feel like fitness magazines should feature healthy women of all sizes, like I can tell by your body shape that you do go to the gym and eat healthy, but you are still a full figure which you love and i wish more fitness magazines featured all shapes and life styles, some people dont have the time or desire to look like a fitness model, but everybody would love to see a body like theirs featured on a magazine, because our bodies are beautiful and powerful too! Thanks for you body positivity you always put a smile on my face! You look great in every photo! 👏👏👏

When you were talking about people telling you to go to the gym, I really related. I can see where you’re coming from with the sex sells convo. But i do think these things sell because women want to know new sex tips or “trends” to feel empowered in the bedroom and keep things fresh. It’s perspective. I would walk by that Iggy magazine and be like oooh boss girl in the bedroom, get it. I don’t think using sex to sell is demeaning unless you’re taking advantage of those involved.

I completely agree, and that narrative should absolutely be included in the conversation about sex. I think the problem is when magazines talk about women's role in sex being just to please a man..when it's definitely not
@haggisa5 жыл бұрын
ryepie The thing is, none of the titles shown on those covers suggested that. Sierra contradicts herself here - saying we should openly talk about sex in one breath, and claiming the word „sex” next to a photo of a woman is demeaning in the next one. There’s nothing demeaning about talking about sex.
@betsybabf7485 жыл бұрын
@@cowgirlcityboy That is not true and hasn't been true in over 30 years. Many articles are how to have great sex or about the female orgasm. Some are about pleasing your partner, but sex is a team effort so anyone having sex with another person should be wanting to also please their partner. What does degrade women is when women jump to claim everything is treating women as second class citizens, even when they have to twist things to do so. Strong, confident successful women don't do that, and we didn't raise our daughters to do that either.
@bernienelson89265 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. You can't be sex-positive and also think that it's demeaning for a woman to be associated with the word sex.

Yeah, but body positivity is also empowering and that's not going on their covers.... They aren't slapping sex on the cover for empowerment - it's only for marketing.
