So many said that Eddy is like the one who nails it without trying. In fact, I always think he tries very hard every time because he sets a high goal for himself. I'll just add an interesting fact for those who might not know this. This piece was actually not (predominantly) composed by Mozart, who died before being able to finish it. He only drafted some of the first orchestra bars and a tiny bit of vocal lines (basically just "Lacrimosa, dies illa"), so the majority was composed by Franz Xaver Süssmayr, one of Mozart's students.
@paideia97
@paideia97 2 жыл бұрын
I'll just add that Mozart wrote the first 8 measures of the piece to be more exact and had a little bit of a fughetta for the word "Amen" that was supposed to be at the end of the lacrimosa but wasn't used at all. You can find the original version of the fughetta and there's at least 4 attempts at finishing it. Other details, such as rough sketches, things shared with friends, wife and his pupil Sussmayr before he died or MAYBE even written indications of ideas or harmony may have been there too as it was the case for other movements in the Requiem but I don't remember enough about this to be precise.

*Martin Ptáček* Naah, you can actually hear where Mozart died and Süssmayr had to step in to scribble an end to the piece. Mozart created at least the basic melodies up till the 'Lacrimosa' and possibly the 'Sanctus' part. But it becomes a bit repetitive after that.

It's not brett's fault por coming up with these "masterpieces" (at least not entirely). While Eddy is using garageband on a computer, Brett's using it in his Ipad,. I've used both before, and it's definetely not the same. Garageband mobile has some serious timing problems, when you record a digital instrument perfomance it usually gets messed up. Also, it's a little bit harder to change notes manually (instead of recording live), like Eddy did. Also, the computer version of Garageband has a lot more digital instruments than the mobile version, that's why Brett had to record his voice while Eddy had the option of recording a digital choir. It would be much more fair to have them use the same computer at different times to record this (but it would be less fun, as we wouldn't get these masterpieces)

Little tip to Eddy: In a 4-part choral style you’d want to listen to the outside voices, so soprano and bass. This will usually be enough to infer the harmony.

Exactly. The bass line is quite easy compared to trying to listen for the Alto and Tenor lines :)

A important tip for these kinds of challenges: Listen to the Bass! Often you can infer the Harmony from the Bassline, most of the few mistakes eddy made could have been solved if he remembered the bassline. For instance in the first meassure of the main theme (where the choir joins in) he harmonizes incorrectly with two beats of d minor followed by two beats of the dominant. The mistake was a missing e diminished chord on beat 3. If he knew that the basses play an E at beat 3, he could have inferred the correct chord, since the only other plausible choice - A major - is very unlikely because in the classical era the dominant chord is rarely played over it's fifth. So remember to listen to the Bass! (not sponsored by the Bass Gang)

dang thanks for the tip! my friend also told me to listen to the bass if i want to figure out chords of pop songs, but my tone deaf ass can only listen to the top part of the chord lol
