Recreating 'Slave To The Rhythm' Intro

Recreating the grand opening of ‘Slave To The Rhythm’ by Grace Jones, produced by Trevor Horn.
Horn is known to have used Synclavier for many of his productions in the 80s and UVI released The Beast, an extensively multi-sampled tribute instrument to the Synclavier. This video is 5 layers of The Beast sounds, attempting to recreate the feel of the classic intro. Not particularly close, but it was great fun trying :)

One of the best synth intros. I want to try this on the Arturia V collection. BTW..this to my ears is spot on,,good job!

Very good. It's a sound and chord sequence that has always fascinated me. I found the multitrack online and that intro is a blend of two separate instruments on separate tracks. One is a simple brass synth sound. The 2nd track is layered with another Pad and that orchestral hit with lots of attack. There is also a low baritone voice with a slight pitch bend, which may have been a sample.

@@jensk.3887 I can't recall exactly. It's a torrent so it comes and goes on different websites. It doesn't seem to be as readily available anymore.

Excellent rendition, sounds very close to the original. Just to add some info, according to interviews with Horn, Lipson and others, the keyboard open chords intro of the song was done by a combination of Andy Richards and Bruce Woolley using two presets form the JX-8P ("Fat Fifths" and "Soundtrack"); however it's clear that there is also some sampled material (e.g the oompph voice attack, similar to one of the samples you have used) likely coming from the Synclavier they were using on that record

Sounds very good. I know Trevor Horn used to do pretty complex things, but for some reason I guess the main pad in fact is played with two oscilattors with a 5th interval and just 3 keys played at time. In fact I think I saw someone playing this way somewhere, or it was some synth preset called "slave to the rhythm". PS: After listen to the multitrack I saw it was more then one synth doing different things. Anyway I managed to create a pretty convincing preset using the 5th interval thing :-)
