One of the best unhauls on youtube. Loved this video. U didnt make excuses to keep books. This is the type of video that encourages me to unhaul and unhaul for real.

I am not banning myself from buying books but I am trying to be intentional with my purchases this year. I can only buy a book if it is in a series and I own the rest or because it isn't available in KU or from my library. I have also drawn a grid in my planner numbered 1 to 497 (my start of year tbr number) and everytime I read a book I already owned I can colour it in and watch my tbr get smaller physically. So far so good only 2 books purchased one to continue a series and 1 that is needed for my book club but not on KU and my library hold won't come in until the end of April and I need it for February. Any I purchase and read this year I am highlighting it in my planner too so I can flick through each month and see how well I have done.

I started to track my book buying this year too (and the amount is crazy mostly because of special edition. I mean 130£ for 5 books !). So I have decided on a rule of "not buying more than 3 books per month" (I read about 6 books per month) I totally support unhauling pretty special edition if you are not much into them. I even chose to unhaul some that I have enjoyed

Love hearing the math and reality check figures! I’m meant to be reducing my TBR this year and so far have only added to it so I need to give myself some hard love too haha

I feel you, I love the original and indie size of Magnolia Parks. I have the first 4 like that and then I have the last one 3 times the size, so annoying. I love big books but I like series to match.

I absolutely love this video! It is so good to hear someone talk about the real stuff - how expensive it is and how much space all the books take and really doing something about it. I also love the fact, that you are getting rid of books you have more copies of and saying you simply don't need them, because I feel it is just so popular to have all the editions of EVERY book you own and it is just ridiculous and not real to me (of course, if you love something, sure, get more of it, but come on... every edition of every (or most) book(s)? You cannot possibly like them all that much... ). Thank you for your honest commenting, it was very refreshing! ❤

Not to spoil it for you, but if you love ACOTAR you should REALLY finish the Crescent City series! The 3rd book is phenomenal!

Absolutely agree. Really hard to explain why without spoiling stuff but CC and especially the third book is a must read if you love acotar
@StephLoves10 ай бұрын
I've already been spoiled for it 😂 and although I'm mad I won't be able to continue my ACOTAR journey from this point on, it is what it is. I just could not get through the second book and I refuse to put myself in a slump with it just to get to CC3 😂
@amyw9735 ай бұрын
I disagree. You aren't missing anything by not reading CC3. CC1 is a standalone and you can't change my mind haha

I love unhauling videos! But this is the first time I saw someone do some calculations. Super smart! I read a lot of ebooks, because they are either cheaper or even free. And I only try to buy books that are special to me. Because if I don't, I would probably drown in books😂

I’m not on a book buying banned because that will not work. But I’m going to use my library a lot more, especially for new releases.The only books I am allowed to buy are ones to continue in a series but I have to finish reading all the books in the series I already own before I can buy the next one. This year reading goal is to finish/ make progress in book series, I’m reading way to many lol

I was really naughty in January and you are right the dopamine kick you get when parcels arrive is crazy. I can’t ban myself either. I have been good with unhauling and have used Vinted so I am pulling some money back and keeping it in a separate account. The money I save I will be using to treat myself at the end of the year. It is super quick to do and pays you more back than ziffit xx

This is the first time I’ve had the freedom to buy what I want when I want, so I’m not doing a book ban. I will however set a precedent that my unread physical tbr has to be less that 30-40% of my owned books. (I haven’t decided a final percentage yet) I still have the opportunity to buy and will help motivate me to read my books

You are amazing. I could not do this. This was just so brutal. . .I do not know how you got rid of some of these. I wish I was as strong as you. I get rid of books all the time, but I never get rid of special editions. The Fourth Wing and Crescent City. . .just. . .wow. . . Even Happy Place. I just couldn’t! Now I agree on Starling House because you have it already and that one is damaged. I hate damaged books on my shelf.

I've unhauled the books, I'll never go back to them. But I have been told how CC2 ends and it makes me pretty sad that I'll no longer be able to continue with ACOTAR without the context of the CC series, but it is what it is unfortunately 🙈

For me the trick was to look at the maths of my lifespan vs the amount of books (especially unread books) I owned. Like, if I read, say, 20 books a year on average, a TBR collection of 100 books would take a full FIVE YEARS to work through if I never bought a single new book during that time and was disciplined enough to only ever read books off the TBR (I am not that disciplined, but the point stands because that means it would take even longer than the 5 years). Suddenly the nearly 200 TBR books I owned felt like a massive weight instead of a joyous collection, because there is no realistic way I would ever be able to read them all. I would be miserable even trying. Now my collection is limited to books that either: 1) are TBRs that beat out all the other TBRs to be truly worth the effort and time commitment, or 2) books I have read before and am definitely going to reread because they are worth taking up one of those limited reading slots in years to come instead of reading a new book. It feels good and my bookshelf really shines now that it only has the books that really truly matter to me. It's made it MY bookshelf instead of just a bookshelf that happens to be in my home, if that makes sense.
