Gathered a couple friends and family members to do some first time test rides on three long wheel based recumbent bikes. I think they all did pretty well zipping around this big parking area in Hunt Valley.
Music is "Tennessee Blues" written by Bill Monroe and performed by Christ Thile and Michael Daves

That Easy Rider looks cool. I have a Rans Stratus that I just love! Thanks for posting.

I just bought a Rans Stratus XP, but it's in Michigan and won't be at my house for another couple weeks. I can't wait to check it out

Awesome video, it was so nice of you to try to get your friends and family into riding. By the way, the Tailwind was never built in an aluminum-frame version. It's not impossible that it has an aluminum fork. You can prove this to yourself easily with a magnet.

Wow... I just got a magnet and checked. You're spot on. It's steel. I also checked some other bikes with the magnet including my older Cruzbike Quest which I thought might be steel since it feels so heavy. But it was aluminum. Thanks for the tip. I should have checked these bikes a long time ago

When you have recumbents why even bother riding anything else? So comfy and fast and nothing hurts.

Where do you get these in Europe (Burley Koosah)? What's the price? I definitely prefer the low pedal base, not the pedaling up high in the air stupidity. The bike looks gorgeous.

Where we seeing their very first start…if so these lwb are so much easier than a swb. Makes me wonder if I should have gone lwb. Are they equally easy when grinding up a steep hill at walking pace?

My experience with swb bikes is really limited to an old Burleigh Hepcat and my Cruzbike Quest. I have 5 lwb bikes. So I'm more familiar with them. I think lwb bikes are easier to learn on and get started with than swb bikes. I love lwb bikes for long trail rides where I don't have to turn that much or start and stop a lot. But my favorite recumbent is my Cruzbike (not in the video) which is technically... a swb. If I have to do a lot of starting and stopping, I think it's much easier to get going on my Cruzbike than my Gold Rush or my Stratus XP (also not in the video clip). I also prefer the Cruzbike for slow climbs and aggressive turns. Once you're comfortable riding it, I just feel like it's easier to take everywhere and manipulate in smaller spaces. It took a lot more time to get comfortable on my Cruzbike, but not just because it's a swb bike. More so because of the front wheel drive /moving bottom bracket. My advice/opinion - If you're already comfortable on a swb, stay with it. But I'd encourage you to try a lwb if you get a chance.

I have a LWB recumbent with a 26" rear wheel and 20" front. Could you tell me if there is a big noticeable difference between the riding the 26" rear wheel recumbent and the 20” rear wheel recumbent in terms of pedal power. thanks

I think the rear 20 inch wheel helps make the Tailwind a little lighter and the overall weight of this bike does seem to make it easier to just get on and start pedaling. If you're doing a lot of starting and stopping on your rides, that can offer an advantage. It feels easier to pedal when using comparable gearing to my other 26" wheel bikes. For someone who's new to recumbents and trying to get comfortable on a lwb or cwlb bike, the Tailwind is a great starter option. I'd also add that over the course of a longer trail ride (in my opinion) I think I prefer the feel/comfort of my other 26" rear wheel bikes. That might also have a little bit to do with other weight factors on the Tailwind. But you definitely feel the road/trail surfaces more than other recumbent bikes in this video (the Gold Rush and the Koosah). I'm sure I could add some wider tires to my Tailwind and make it a little smoother, but right now the tire width sizes on my Tailwind are comparable to the other two in this clip.

The Easy Racers Tour Easy and Gold Rush bikes feel great. The few I've ridden just feel so efficient and comfortable. If you're doing long tours, they're great bikes

No one liked the Koosah?
@BikesAndBanjos
@BikesAndBanjos Жыл бұрын
On this day you could sort of say that. But two things were really contributing to that... 1) I think the seat was in too much of a recline position for new riders and 2) The shifters on that bike really need some work which detracted from the ride experience. I've since tweaked the seat position for other people on different rides and people do like that bike. My son really likes it.

*I* like the Koosah! Other than the Limbo, Burley made some fantastic recumbents. It's a shame they decided to get out of that business, and that Edge (which bought their designs and improved on them) folded so quickly.
