" tan " and " tan inverse " both are different things. Tan can go anywhere in any quadrant. But The range of tan inverse is only (-π/2 to π/2 ) Understand this : The answer of any questions of any inverse trigonometry function can never be outside of range .

If you want to take ist step in mathematical world ,my sincere advice is to go on lecture series " Discrete mathematics nptel iit ropar " it's Available on KZbin , nptel , swayam and so on. The nptel course start from very basic and intresting motivation and covers very deep and exciting examples. Trust me and you never regret.
