An underrated part of this performance and his technique generally is all the pick/finger switching to control the pace and volume. Also, ESH might be the only guitarist I know who has better chops on his right hand than his left, which makes this 5 chord song (not counting voicings) ridiculously engaging

will someone explain how evan plays the lick at 1:12? I understand there's muting involved obviously, but I think there's more to it.
@danrunion136 жыл бұрын
Open 6th string, based on the E major scale so A string 11 12 and 14 fret, D string 14 13 and 11 fret all with open low E string

I wanna know how he plays the fill before going to the B and A chords and "now we're on the same page"
@spencerkranz44956 жыл бұрын
@@danrunion13 I know the tabs but I feel like there's some kind of muting system. like he mutes all strings with index and plays with his middle and ring. idk though.
@spencerkranz44956 жыл бұрын
@@danrunion13 you could prolly figure it out by ear. it's pretty cool tho

Idk if you're still looking but I'm pretty sure he's just palm muting with his strumming hand whilst play the riff

Many of his songs use creative voicings derived from the CAGED shapes. The first chord is Eadd9 from the G shape with the high and low E strings ringing out, then G#m7 sliding up to an A power chord (using a major third instead of the perfect fifth, tabbed out as 547600). Slide that same shape up to B, then repeat. The riff goes up and down the major scale in the E shape of the 12 fret, with the low E ringing as a bass note throughout. It then slides down to play the riff in the G shape. B M3power chord -> A M3power chord -> Emaj (Now we’re on the same page!) Bmaj->C#m->Emaj (Repeat beginning) Circling the gap The final chord comes at the Outro, where you play the Eadd9 shape but with your index finger barring the 9th fret (So let it go) B5->C#5->Eadd9 And that’s the tune. Apologies that some of the language is clunky, but I hope this helps. Playing this song well requires a good sense of rhythm and syncopation/rubato/dynamics, as well as a comfortable understanding of the fretboard. A big part of the song’s sound lies in the strum pattern and the strings he hits (up strum low high low, low high low, low high), and he makes liberal use of the high b and e strings as an E power chord. There are other voicings and noodles in this song too, but the above should get you started
