The Broken are hilariously aptly named. Their animations are broken. Their lighting is broken. And they make sure performance is broken. I could've sworn it was not this bad earlier, but it appears that in addition to having to fix up the model to make it animate better and reflect light properly, I'll also have to deal with the fact that if there are too many Broken on-screen, framerate drops into the trash can. Even one of them seems to put a heavy strain on things. I really didn't think their model was that complex, but something about them is clearly fucking shit up. I may have to reconsider the idea of them entirely, and I really don't want to because I really like the concept and it's become too much of their identity. Again I'm sorry about the lag. This is the worst it's ever been. So bad that it even causes some dialogue to be skipped, which frustrates me to no end. I'd probably re-record it if I wasn't exhausted from already doing so many takes. Lots of issues plaguing this particular video. I usually have to do retakes for various reasons, but I think this one took the heaviest toll on my nerves. For instance, in addition to performance issues, I also had to deal with stuff like the text apparently not adjusting to the screen resolution properly. The entire rest of the UI manages just fine, even the textbox, but the text in particular just doesn't wanna. Hence you can see a hiccup around 3:20 where the text resizes. This is my sloppy, temporary solution; the text will just shrink down if the textbox is flooded. Normally I just stick to a limit and make a new entry if it gets too long, but I can't keep in mind different screen resolutions because it's really fucking unpredictable how it'll come out. So for now I'll stick to a single resolution and hope I figure out how to make sure the text respects it. Overall... Lots of frustration on my end. And lots more yet to come, no doubt. I have at least made a rule for myself to keep the number of Broken onscreen to a minimum, for framerate's sake. Man, for each video with them I restrict them more and more... This ain't fun. At this point I can't wait to be done with showing Axtor's domain so I don't have to deal with their shit anymore. I have a feeling the third type of minion will also cause me troubles though, so I don't know if I really should be so eager to move on...

Willcraft bro nah nah nah bro find something ur passionate to create. If u find a topic that you really like, create ONE project and STICK to that project. dont be so harsh on urself that u move on from each and every one project to the point where u get stressed of thinking. Find ONE idea u really want to create and create that. STICK to that. We'll be here to give u feedback. And also give a description of the game so we know the context and the background. Anyways here are some suggestions as to what u should do. :) always here

I'm proud of you. Sure none of it is perfect but you've done a lot in such a short amount of time, and it's amazing after so much time having trouble going forward. I still really like the worlds you've created. However, don't forget to take a breather, don't hesitate to google help, eat and sleep even if only a bit. I'm happy to see each and every of your advancements. All my love to you and good luck with the rest of it!

I love that the value for the barrels counted actually goes up as time passes, that's an excellent detail! Are the guy's hands somewhere else in the world that the player will encounter? The "Would you like them?" prompt almost made it sound like the player was already in possession of them. I think the register the Broken speak in is kind of interesting, it goes out of its way to be a little naturalistic (swearing, slang, etc) despite the fact that most of them seem to have basically never interacted with another Broken. I guess it's to emphasize that they really are "people" and not robots, since that's where the impact of these scenes comes from. I do kind of wonder about the patchwork of their knowledge, though. They seem to have a lot of ambient information about the factory and the nature of the Broken, but not as much about the specific details of what other jobs are being done. Especially strange is that he didn't know what was happening behind him, but knew how the conveyor belt functioned and how other Broken interacted with it. That said, I do like the metaphor you set up with it. Fun fact: If I counted right and the cycle for the barrels is about 4 seconds long, then the guy's been standing there for over 2 years (but of course, with him "losing track sometimes," it could also be any amount longer). When I put the initial number of barrels into google, the top result was a .gov page on how anti-depressant use can lead to suicide, which is a thematically appropriate coincidence

Glad someone noticed the value going up. I'm slowly working my way towards making the dialogue system more complex... Next step is locking/unlocking interactions based on what options you choose, and I have a feeling that's gonna be a little trickier than this... The statement about if he'd like hands is intended as a question of if he would want them if he could have them, not so much the player having them readily available. It's an ambiguity that's hard to get around when dealing with the player replies' character limit... Fortunately it won't be ambiguous for people actually playing the game and not just looking at these previews, since they'll be well aware about the absence of spare hands in their possession. As for their selective knowledge, that's actually something that ended up being mentioned in the next preview I have planned, so hopefully you won't wonder about that for too long. I appreciate that you took the time to actually figure out how long he's been counting the barrels. Unfortunately the lag makes the length of the cycle hard to discern... Unless my memory is completely failing me, it lasts for 3 seconds rather than 4, making it less than what you got. Funny thing about that though, I actually ended up shortening the number I initially went with because I had to keep in mind that he probably can't count super-far before making a mistake or getting bored of counting. The original number would therefore have indicated that he'd been at it for at least 200 years rather than 2. In hindsight I'm glad I changed it because it makes their lifespan more ambiguous... Most creatures in the game are insanely old since death and even the effects of time passing don't really apply unless someone applies them, but the Broken are among the few that actually die (or rather, cease to function properly and THEN die) so keeping it unclear just how long it usually takes for one to become defective is probably a good idea. And that number is indeed a happy accident. Shame it doesn't remain consistent or I could keep that as an obscure easter egg...

I think the symbolism is that the tyrant intensionally keeps them apart despite the fact that they can't really interact with each other anyway since they seem to be concerned mainly with they're own function and no one else, they way they talk about how defective broken's are wastes makes me think that they intensionally choose to not think about it

What if the broken were obly shattered at the joints, would that help with the issues with their models? It wouldnt change much of their dialogue either, i would guess.

Over and over again I find myself fascinated with this game that hasn't even been completed. The world building is weird in the best way. The twisted visuals like something from one of those unintentionally scary Nickelodeon shows, the little hints at the state of this world and its inhabitants... It irks to be explored by travelers and theorizers. There's a sub-reddit for doing just that sort of thing: www.reddit.com/r/Willcraft/ come on and discuss all of Will.'s creations
