Never liked this type of setup tbh. It's trying to direct both right turning and straight through traffic but doesn't commit to either one.

It's pretty clear. You cannot proceed straight or left while the right traffic turns left in front of you, but you may turn only right on the green arrow

Nothing wrong with the right turn signals. They act just like any doghouse PPRT. But the MUTCD requires another signalhead for the through phase, even if it is not the major movement.

They always cause traffic lights to malfunction like they do it intentionally or maybe they temporarily do it for an April fools joke on April 1 every year.

I saw that once in my hometown where the green went on but the red did not go off, but it was a glitch.

Very dangerous malfunction. I don’t know if they intentionally did this or it’s an issue but I think it’s a malfunction but don’t know what caused it. Maybe the red circle was stuck on.

It should be intentional and not a malfunction, though this setup is not ideal because the right turn is exclusively protected. A red arrow should replace the red ball and be omitted when the green arrow is shown.

In California If they want the middle lane to be straight and right turn just put up such a sign No right green arrow needed The right green arrow is for the right lane because it has a right of way The middle lane have both straight and right turn traffic so you can’t have another right arrow there Very misleading…. Don’t know how they design these?😮

If there were dual right turn lanes, it would be great. But for a single lane, seems like overkill.
