Red Bull can't make up their minds regarding their future lineup. Either keep Checo or just get on with and promote Tsunoda.

What’s going on with Red Bull’s driver lineup for 2024 and beyond? The team is under intense scrutiny for its indecision, with big names like Yuki Tsunoda, Liam Lawson, and Franco Colapinto all vying for a seat alongside Max Verstappen. As speculation grows, questions about Sergio Perez’s performance and his future with Red Bull are heating up. With Pérez struggling post-summer break and whispers of financial backers influencing Red Bull’s choices, the stakes have never been higher. Is Red Bull prioritizing sponsorship over success, or are they playing the long game with their next generation of drivers?
In this video, we analyze Red Bull's challenges, from the commercial pressures surrounding Pérez and Colapinto to Tsunoda’s bold bid for a promotion. Plus, we unpack the critical shareholder meeting that could shape the team's future and discuss Verstappen’s stance on his teammate. Don’t miss this detailed breakdown of the decisions that could redefine Red Bull’s dominance in Formula 1. Who should take the second seat, and what does the future hold for Red Bull Racing?

I think there are more nuances to this!!!! Ricciardo, Gasly, Albon all destroyed near Max. Checo not immediatly destroyed but kept fighting but had to capitulate partly in former years but fully in 2024 after ,i believe it was Monaco. Checo's management smartly negociated the deal and RB was hooked with a punishment article when RB cancelled the contract. I believe it is a set of circumstances but the basic problem was max all second drivers destroying and this pushed red bull in impossible position.

Not likely, Red Bull (parent company) tends to not be extremely hands-on with their sports ventures(football, cycling, extreme sports, motorsports). They have influence, but they prefer that the ventures themselves figure it out, as long as cans are sold and there is (relative) success. The key difference between Checo and Albon and Gasly’s situation is the sheer sponsor backing that comes with Checo. Though with Albon you could argue that the Thai part of Red Bull had some influence, maybe. It’s harder to justify ~20 million going from the budget than 2 million at the end of the day.

I went into this video convinced you were going to massively talk up Yuki over Liam for RB. You were far more reasonable than I expected. Liam is doing pretty well, but it still 80 races behind Yuki in experience. We are often guilty of recency bias. Liam’s poor result in Vegas doesn’t look great. But Laurent Mekies has said they stuffed up his car setup in Vegas but they nailed Yuki’s. As if things aren’t complicated enough. Liam is still putting forward his case with his wheel to wheel driving. So far for me he’s been second to none in that department. His outright speed could do with some fine tuning, but that’s just lack of experience.

This is forgetting his terrible performance in Mexico, both in pace and in attitude. Been saying and I stick by it, Lawson is overhyped. Yuki will eat his lunch over an entire season, people underestimate how fast he is, pace isn't Yuki's issue. That being said, Lawson should be fully evaluated, it's the only way anyone will truly know, that's the purpose of VCARB anyway. Side note, I don't get people's obsession with Colapinto either. Why? because he has faired decent against Albon? Who faired decent against?? Latifi?@?! Colapinto shows some decent pace at times, but he's been utterly destroying the car in the process, on a team that just doesn't have means. I don't see the attraction, unless a team is devoid of young drivers. I can't help but feel like the Williams just isn't a horrible car, Russell would have good quali's in it, as has Albon. I believe Latifi and Seargent fed fuel into the narrative that the car was terrible, when it really isnt all that bad for a back marker. Hence why Colapinto has been roughly on par with Albon. Latifi and Seargent simply did not have any hands at al.

@ I think you’re wrong on few things here. Firstly Liam and Yuki have been racing each other for years now. I’m talking pre F1 here. Liam was the stronger driver of the two. Given time that will show in F1 as well. I don’t have anything against Yuki here either. I would be happy for him to get promoted to RBR over Liam if it meant Liam got to maintain his VCARB seat. You can’t just throw away the fact Yuki has more experience in F1. For either side of the argument. Saying Liam is over hyped is just not the case. He is the only rookie that doesn’t bin his car every other day and he has bested some huge names in dogfights over the last 4 racers. His attitude is justified. RB have put ungodly amounts of pressure on him and he hasn’t crumbled. He doesn’t have big money behind him. So RB being RB will have a problem on there hands with him. Do they want talent or money? I know the answer, but that will leave Liam to go elsewhere which will also be a problem for them. Cos he is a proper talent. Not an overhyped one! You are right about the Colapinto hype though. That is a bit OTT at the moment. Sure he has some good moments. But if it keeps up like this Willaim’s will go broke.

@@The123Orion123 He did have two different accidents where he shares blame in Mexico, though in varying amounts. His accident with Checo and then response to it was the worst of it. I am not saying he has NO talent, not at all, they all have talent at this level, but the behavior is as if he is this proven commodity that was being held back all this time because he doesn't have a seat. This is not Leclerc or Verstappen. Yes, Yuki certainly has more experience than he does, which is one of the reasons he will beat him more often than Lawson will. Time will tell, I have nothing against either driver, just calling it how I see it.

IMO the main reason why Yuki got a F1 seat in first place is that Red Bull wanted to continue using those Honda engines after 2021. Otherwise, they were going to be stuck in a bad situation with Renault (since the rules stipulate that the manufacturer with least teams will have to supply a team or teams in case of no deal penned), who were not exactly jumping of joy of the prospect to be reunited with the same people who kept verbally bashing their engines (regardless of being right or wrong) over and over again during the turbo-hybrid era to the point that in the final years of their now toxic relationship Red Bull branded them as TAG Heuer. And you can bet that neither Ferrari nor even Mercedes were going to give them a lifeline had the negotiations with Honda fell through. But 2025 will be Honda's last year with Red Bull and Yuki no longer has the Honda connection to use as a clout in making his case for the Red Bull seat. Even the prospects of moving to Aston Martin along with Honda aren't a sure thing as Lance Stroll has an 'ironclad' contract (it will take a boatload of cash to make Lawrence Stroll reconsider) and Fernando Alonso may decide to race until his 50's.

Tsunoda doesn't need the Honda 'clout' as he's outperforming not only Perez but Lawson (and, earlier, Ricciardo). Lawson is more or less a rookie, but Tsunoda is clearly the better man for the Red Bull seat, partly because of Lawson's inexperience -- Red Bull's history with throwing rookies into that seat is well documented, to say the least.

Franco accelerated too quick, and the team's strategy of leaving him on the intermediates was correct, it was Franco's responsibility as a driver to not crash for a few laps. I completely understand that Franco judged the car undrivable, but he has to stick with the best strategy otherwise... why are you in f1? Don't get me wrong I love Franco and he IS a good driver. We should be extra extra realistic about F1. While for most of us it is a sport to watch/consumer, for the teams it is a way to make money. Most of all, for the parent companies or even the actual brand names, it is nothing more than marketing; if their team or driver does well, sales in that region go up. What I'm trying to say is that even if you're the big boss of an F1 team, there's still a bigger fish you need to report to. This is very sad. Because let's consider opportunities for drivers: - A South or Central American driver can boost sales. - Who are the consumers? - What does this mean for female drivers? I don't see women suddenly buying more Red Bulls - or maybe they will. Perez has the F1 team in a chokehold, because the main Red Bull doesn't want to lose the market advantage. And there we have it ... F1 drivers are nothing more than gladiators to endanger themselves for the public. Team managers are nothing more than product owners. And the viewers? The viewers are part of the "bread and games" that will spend their money on merchandise, subscriptions, and track tickets.

If Red Bull do not take Colapinto their worst nightmare is; - Colapinto in F1 - Colapinto gets sponsored by Monster (Monster, we're #2 in Mexico but we try harder) Colapinto could end up at McLaren or Ferrari within 2 years. As reserve driver at Williams he could well get an F1 seat pretty quickly during the season at Red Bull/RB or any other team that decides to replace a driver. It's worth betting on his potential to park him in their stable. They should also send him to Japanese Super Formula to improve for a season.

I'll be honest and mention that I personally rarely watch 20 minute videos on YT. Not a fan of long(ish) format. I'll try to stay subscribed, but I'm a user that tends to unsubscribe a lot when I think there's a (even minor) barrier to watching. RBR ignoring Checo's performance deficit feels so unfair to Max. Max works insanely hard-pushing the team, fighting for the championship, doing extra testing (like Imola earlier this year), attending more engineering meetings, and running more sims-while Checo still struggles. It’s like Max is fighting alone, and Horner doesn’t seem really to care. Honestly, what’s the point of keeping Checo? Young drivers like Yuki or Liam would at least have a longer future with the team. 2028 is just four years away-if they’re not ready when Max leaves, what’s left?

To be honest I don't think Hadjar is in the reckoning at all for 2025. They already have 5 drivers for 4 seats (including Colapinto), Hadjar is 6th in the list and so nowhere near a seat. They'll probably use him in the Lawson role of smiling on the pitlane when another RB driver spins off. It should be Max at Red Bull and Franco at RB, pick and choose Yuki/Liam for the other 2 seats. Maybe do a seat share like Klien/Liuzzi in 2005? 4 races for Yuki at the top team and then swap with Liam to RB for 4 races etc?

Yuki's a honda driver. He's been in f1 nearly 3 years but a relative newb comes in and finishes ahead of him in half the races. He's not consistent enough. Liam is the man! Colapinto took 3 corners off his car in qualifying. Was Helmut watching?

TBH, Marko and Horner said so many things, how can you trust them anymore? Also they said that Checo will stay in 2025, so if they were going to reinforce that, I wouldn't think it's their final answer. The only thing that makes an end to this discussion is an RB driver announcement. The fact that they didn't do it shows Checo is not safe. They wanna make sure, rather than make another announcement a week later, you gotta give it to them. If it's Lawson, they were not going to remove Checo, and make a second announcement about the whole restructure. If it's someone else, Checo's gonna go, expect the announcement in half an hour 😃 simple as that.

The best example of a good driver completely drowning on a top team because he couldn't get grips with the team is Frentzen in 1997 with the Williams. He was amazing in all the other teams, yet he looked like an amateur in the best car of the grid. Same thing has been happening with Perez imo

My theory: Franco signed a contract with Redbull already, he can´t talk about it or even hint about it because Redbull is trying to get rid of Checo paying the less amount of money possible in this scenario. A tweet in the wrong moment, a bad timmed comment and they could end up in an ugly legal battle with Checo similar to what Sauber had in 2016 with their 3 dirvers.

Of all the stars that have risen through the RB junior program, I feel Yuki is closest to Max; not in terms of talent, but that they're both destroyers of team mates. I get the reticence about putting them together. If I were Dan Towriss I'd snap Tsunoda up for Cadillac. A six-year vet still in his prime trumps an over-the-hill vet like Bottas or Magnussen, IMHO.

Perez's crashes are hurting the teams development with the cost cap. He's gotta go. Colapinto isn't ready for a top team seat yet. Not even close. I don't think Lawson is, either. I think Tsunoda should go to Red Bull. He's driving the tits off that RB. Colapinto or Hadjar should join Lawson at RB. We'll find out after Abu Dhabi. In any case, it's awesome we have so many rookies coming in next year. Wonderful to see.

i dont understand the perez hate. perez is their only driver who accepts being #2 to verstappen, their car is a knife's edge that only verstappen can drive, perez is trying what he can with a car that is really not developed around him, and brings them loads of money. why would they fire perez without giving him an actually stable car that can help him get back to points? points are not how you judge a driver, verstappen cant score points in a sauber, dont u dare judge these really amazing drivers, who have loads loads of talent. perez doesnt need to prove to anybody how good he is, he has had a stellar career yk, and talking abt tsunoda, he is probably their next #1 driver after max leaves, and thats why they dont want him driving along max, they want him to stay #1 in vcrab than become #1 in rb. and no dont say lawson, lawson cant even cooperate with perez , i dont see a world where he accepts being a #2 driver?

Yuki driving the RB during a test is nothing more than a lame condescension and really insulting to Yuki - what RB are saaying is - "...you are only good enough for testing, now be a good boy and be happy with the place you have". But thruth be told, RB F1 must be an absolute sh1thile to work for and the atmosphere must be really toxic. I do not envy anyone worlking for this company. But this whole RB saga is nothing but causing people to tongue-wag and as they say in the classics, "... any publicity is good publicity - just as long as they talk about us and no-one else". In my view, if Checco is kept, Lawson is screwed because he will be replaced by Colapinto. They screwed him over just enough that no other team will have him next year. Had they been clearer earlier in the year, then Lawson would possibly have been signed at Audi be even at Williams before the Sainz signature.
