I FRIGGIN DON'T GET IT!!! What has Rockstar developers been doing all this TIME? IT'S INCREDIBLY DISSAPOINTING that it's the people who are fixing the game now sharing this information. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE before the game launch! IT'S THE NORMAL THING to have FEEDBACK from people who plays it, and they delivered this fail of a game! Wasting my time trying to make the experience better! I was expecting a fast action packed experience like RDR1, they also messed with that too! And changed it to boring, slow and repetitive! SO SUMMARY: 1) Lack of direction in the start of the story, slow and boring (unlike RDR1) 2) Lack of getting feedback from players (did they even use game testers? Or played themselves? I'm almost seriously asking, can you believe it?), resulting in now everyone complaining about the controls and the repetitive game mechanics. 3) The main character lacks the COOL FACTOR. In RDR1 we got Jhon Marston, the guy had a cool look, cool moves, cool voice, cool understandable backstory. And now in RDR2 what do we get? The old Arthur Morgan, outlaw with no real emotional connection to his story and sense of being. Not cool Rockstar, not cool. - - - - Bonus: 4) It's insane to make the players hold the friggin A button to make silly actions like brushing your horse hair, and the same for MULTIPLE many other small actions!!! AT LEAST give the option to just press it, NOT hold it. For me, this is Rockstar BIGGEST FAIL. And I am a passionate person who loves great games! xxx

why i don't use first person for this game is because you miss all the glorious animations and effort they put into this game you cannot see your beard you cannot see your custom guns holstered you cannot see his cool weapon flip when holstering a sidearm, you cannot see all the mud that covers you, you cannot see the blood that soaks on your clothes when carrying a carcass, you cannot see arthur' s sometimes hilarious reactions to things, there is just so much to admire in this game in third person that i feel first person totally ruins it. Although i will say it is helpful for looting in tight congested places. It definitely is really fun for short bursts though but eventually i always want to go back to see everything the game has to offer that gets completely cut off from view when stuck in first. My opinion though.

After I adjusted these, the FPS mode has become my favorite way to play Red Dead 2. Let me explain... the way the settings are now are clunky and jarring. You need to set the control scheme to FPS and go into the camera and turn the Auto Leveling off. This allows you to control the character the same way you would in a Battlefield game. There is no more clunkiness and it brings up the enemies close to where you can see the gruesome effects of your shots. It also allows you to see what you're aiming at because the 3rd Person mode has the camera so far back that it's hard to see your target. Plus, while you're aiming in FPS mode, mash down on your D Pad and you will aim DIRECTLY DOWN YOUR SIGHTS. This is BY FAR the most fun way to play and shoot in Red Dead. YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE IT to see what I'm talking about. You can purchase different and unique gun sights at the Gunsmith and aiming down your sights is the only way to enjoy your new sight. Plus, it's realistic and much more fun! (I have it set up where it switches to 3rd person mode when I get on my horse because this is the where that mode fits and works best. When I get off my horse, it automatically switches back to First Person)"

Quick tip!!! Strategy guide recommends the "sharpshooter technique" for headshots. When you aim and lock on to someone, as soon as the reticle is about to shrink, you flick the right stick up sloftly and press RT right after to get headshot kills. It takes practice and its with default aim controlls, but it feels so much better mastering the technique. Hope this helps!

yup I play in FPP, the only thing I had to change was auto-leveling. Just turned that off so I can freely control where the camera goes without it automatically shifting. I also had to turn off FPP for when on horse and vehicles because its confusing. Also you don't need to "pump up field of view a lot" like he says unless you get motion sickness easily. standard controls and FOV are perfect.

Probably no one's going to see this but I just want to say when you set the sprint button to toggle you don't automatically run at full speed. When you press it yes you're at a good jogging speed but to go as fast as possible you need to mash the button.

For the most part controls are fine, you just have to be aware of some conflicting buttons where multiple actions are available at times for the same button. Tapping X/A is fine for me, Narrow on auto aim is like full auto and wide will just put it near the enemy for a semi auto. The other setting and the sliders make you able to customise it more to your taste, Normal and full slider = full auto aim, wide is useless in a crazy gun fight, those settings are more for PC users I think, it's just easier for them to leave those settings in for you to play with.

Okay, I feel the need to explain something that I doubt many people truly understand. Deadzones are a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. It is impossible for manufacturers to make a controller that will be perfectly centered, and the programs are extremely sensitive when it comes to movement. So if you ever had the stick-drift issue, where your character for some reason keeps walking very slowly in one particular direction, this is because the game does not have a deadzone for the controller. The concept is simple, it makes a deadzone that when you move the analog stick in that direction by just a hair, your character won't start moving until it reaches past the deadzone. The issue is, rockstar doesn't provide this deadzone for movement, only for camera control... which annoys me... Because I end up with situations when I go to stop my horse, and she pulls to the left because my left analog stick tends to drift a bit more to the left than the right. This has resulted in people running into me and literally knocking me and my horse to the ground and running over us with a wagon, all because my horse turned left instead o stopping while facing forward. I felt the need to mention this, because I keep seeing people complain about the deadzone option, when in all actuality its a GREAT addition to the game and we actually need another slider for the left analog stick to resolve stick drift.

Narrow, wide and normal are the amount of distance horizontally it takes for your lock on to grab hold of the target. First person is a gimic, only faster and useful for sniping. Hold the A button while aiming and shooting in third person for faster strafe/movement. Aim sense and look are preferance. Just know aim sensitivity does not effect lock on sensitivity but does effect how fast you turn around after shooting and diving. Aim assist strength has nothing to do with lock on strength. It's the drag strength when your reticle is on target, more of a free aim preference. Personally I have dead zone at 0, acceleration at max, Aim sense max, look sense max, wide aim and aim assist max. This is what a large majority of competitive lock on players will use when online hits. As for free aim, it's better to tweak until it feels comfortable.

Teddy From the block the horse thing annoyed me too, you have to be on the horse to give them food/medicine, press L1 to bring up the item wheel then go past Weapons and Items along to Horse Items and pick it from there, and most importantly you can’t be moving any faster than a trot, otherwise it doesn’t apply the item and doesn’t even tell you why lol

I know this is an old vid, but I just repurchased the game for PC and just wanted to check some video settings out and came across this vid. I just wanted to say one thing I'd say ruins the controls slightly if one of these changes was made, turning running into toggle mode. When you do this it gives you less control over your speed, especially on horse, tapping X or A at different rates will effect speed, and when running, tapping in time with footsteps uses less stamina, so I'd not change that personally.

Hard to use free aim when all of the AI have auto aim & your camera gets wobbly after being shot at a few times. I'll definitely be trying free aim out online though

This is why i practice in story with free aim so when online comes out i'm already comfortable with it. Also dead eye makes it easy enough and as long as you go from cover to cover the ai actually struggles to land hits

I have aim acceleration down along with the dead zone and both sensitivitys high to stop it feeling sluggish. But its all personal preference, i prefer to have complete control, i dont like that snapping feeling as for me it takes some of the immersion away also you feel like a bad mfker when you take a group out quickly knowing you did all the work in regards to aiming. But some big cons are it takes a lot more effort and you have to think about positioning all the time. I completely understand why people prefer auto aim etc though i was just throwing some banter

I hate the shooting in this game, its my only complaint. The bounty hunters are ruthless because they are random and arent part of the story. I feel like my deaths are unfair sometimes because of it lol

Having lock on mode wide makes it lock on targets you may not want for hunting. I found it would lock on the closest target. Not the 3* animal. Narrow works much better.

Acceleration can not be turned off entirely in this game. Turning it up actually makes the acceleration seem less because it gets up to its max speed faster when aiming.

What pissed me off the most about RDR2 and Rockstar games in general is that I had to flip my L2/L1 R2/R1 functions on my PS4 because I couldnt shoot anything but a revolver. It happened in GTA V and other games like Battlefield but at least BF1 provided and in-game solution and I feel like with RDR2 coming out so recently they could've done it too

I messed with the audio and turned sound on high, score volume to low and the dialogue balance down a little bit. The music is awesome and goes well with what you are doing but it got annoying win trying to listen to your surroundings. Helped me. Great video and thinks for the tips.
