What really did a big difference for me was : in the launcher go to Settings and tick "Hibernate when running a game" and then (still in the settings) click RDR2 and remove the tick in "enable cloud saves"

Damn that's wild. I have an rx580 4gb, which is about $120, and I get 60 fps with textures at ultra and most things on high. If your computer is dog shit and you hate changing the settings then don't buy one of the best looking games in the market. Plus rockstar is a great company that makes good games, I don't really care if they are having a hard time optimizing a beautiful game to be played on garbage computers because they're a good company. Go boycott betheda or activision because they have actual problems that are bigger than the optimization problems of a 2 day old port.

Thanks bro, this actually legit helped me tune RDR2 for my PC. I have an 8th gen i7 8750, 32GB RAM, but my GPU isnt the best, so using your video helped me understand the few things I wasnt sure of, so coupled with your descriptions and examples this video helped me get it to a point where playing Red Dead is much more enjoyable. Its not 100% yet, due to the weird hitches and random FPS drops (I will be walking along with a nice 60fps, I'll stop for a few moments, then when I start moving again in the same direction I have noticable frame drops) but its getting there.

I have a GTX 1080 and i7-4790k and i get 60fps most of the time, but sometimes the framerate gets very unstable and stutters. It almost seems random, sometimes if i face a certain direction in game my fps drops, other times it's buttery smooth 60fps. I can put all settings to low and this still happens, I can put lots of settings to high and ultra and the results are strangely similar... Changing from dx12 to vulkan seemed to work amazingly... and then the fps started dropping again.

Gpu driver 446.14 is my fav driver, if you are using vulkan too then go back to it! (It gave me around 15 fps boost on my gtx 1070) But if you are using directx then keep your driver up to date! THANK ME LATER ✌️

I don't know what is wrong with this game, I've been trying to play it for 3 days and it won't keep settings. I've gone in and set the settings.xml and it worked alright for a few minutes. No matter what I set the resolution comes up as a small window and when I set anything it locks up my laptop. I have an MSI gaming laptop with i7, 16gb , RTX 3050ti 4gb. Wow, it really did help. It got like +10 fps. I've recently bought GTX 1660 SUPER by MSI and been struggling with cpu bottlenecka (i5-4460) and now RDR2 runs way smoother. It still have some issues in denser locations. Although I'm getting an i7-4790k in few days and I'm looking forward to see stable 60 fps in every location on these settings and also higher.

After applying these settings I was still only averaging 30fps in the benchmarks at 1440p. My specs are: GTX 1070 8GB, AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, 32GB DDR4 RAM. I switched the the graphics API from Vulkan to DirectX 12 and run the benchmark again and averaged 50fps. Still rather disappointing, but a significant increase from Vulkan, hopefully this helps someone else out. Thanks for the video.

The strange thing is that the GPU-usage is at 15-25%, so it's not struggling, it's just not even trying, so I guess it's some sort of driver or engine problem, that'll probably be patched relatively soon :)

Resolution scale an be great on high resolution displays and you should definitely touch the TAA sharpening setting, at 100% it completely takes away the TAA but still reduces performance

To "fix" the stuttering, i downloaded a program called "Process Lasso" and scrolled down to rdr2.exe and right-clicked on it and went to "CPU Limiter" then "Create New CPU Rule" then in the "When CPU use is at" box i put 98% and for the "reduce by this many cores" box i put 2, and then for the "for a period of" box i put 2 seconds then click "Add New Rule" then ok. Fixed most of the stuttering to where it's actually playable, because the Directx12 api runs like shit for me. It still stutters here and there but is bearable. Just make sure you select "Add New Rule" and that everything is correct and it's launched everytime you launch the game. Still pathetic you need to download an external program to fix them damn game Rockstar!!

Another placebo effect. How many benchmarks did you run before and after these settings? Try running about 15 to 20 benchmark runs before and after and I think you'll see almost zero effect on any of these "fixes" people have been posting. The ONLY time this Process Lasso program would work is if you have a CPU capable of very HIGH fps (140+) OR a 2 core CPU. See Gamer Nexus video titled "Red Dead Redemption 2 Stuttering, Hyperthreading, & Async Compute on PC " if you think I'm full of it.

The graphics card information in thr top left is showing less than your cards actual memory as it factors in the background usage. So, the game is telling you that at that point in time, you have 6Gb of available memory for RDR2

I use dx12 because I use a g sync screen. Vulkan doesn't support Vulkan as far as I know, but even if it does, it seems kinda blurry. Dx12 might cost you a few frames, but with g sync I highly suggest dx12. Changed to dx because my game permanently crashed, no more crashes and the game looks and feels much smoother.

I use a GTX 970 and playing medium/low reduces my fps by like 20 frames compared to if i run it ultra/high lol.. i.e on ultra/high im bouncing between 40-60 fps but if i drop it to medium/low it tanks down to less than 20fps - my theory is vegetation/volumetric and shadow details.. out west there aren't as many trees casting shadows and the dry biome doesn't seem to fog up as much as it would in say a forested area. could be wrong, haven't really tested it extensively but yeah low settings wreck me was the point of the comment. lol xD

I waited for this to get released on PC since it was announced and I'm truly sad that it seems that even people with really high end rigs can't run it properly, altho I don't have expectations for 2k/4k or Ultra.
