The reason Rimmer introduces himself as FIRST technician is because, as I recall, when he left to become Ace Rimmer, in his funeral, he was awarded the distinction by Lister and the rest of the "crew". THIS Rimmer, as has been stated by Doug Naylor, IS the original Rimmer, who is back for reasons no one can understand.

The issue is that in series 12 'mechocraty' he's a second tech. So somethings happened between then and The Promised Land.

Weird thing about this movie is that Cat didn't seem to have interest in the girl cats. He was always so eager for women then two of his own kind show up and he doesn't even flirt?

Yeah, it did treat the Cats in a very different way than expected, I'd hoped for all of them to be in mad suits and screeching all the time! :-)

Wasn't there a 200 year stasis time jump in series 6? How are there still survivors from Red Dwarf from before Lister came out of stasis the first time?

it's even worse than that, the series 6 episode had them go through a worm hole that added hundreds of years, the series7 episode Nanarchy had them chase the nanobots for hundreds of years, then the later dave era episode Krysis had then in stasis for ages chasing a second android for kryten to meet! By the time if the promised land it could be close to 2000years after the shows first episode 'The End'!!!

@@simonjeffery13 err okay... the end of the episode skipper was a red herring, Rimmer never actually returned to the correct 'prime' reality, he just found one very very similer! The one he landed in is actually one where the crew had previously travelled back 2000years. - This is backed up by Ace Rimmer saying that 'I cant go back', if Ace couldnt ever return to his home dimention dispite having the amazing wildfire ship, then neither can rimmer using the quantum skipper. Once you leave you cant get back!!!

0 seconds ago I thought the same as another commenter- why indeed was Cat never interested in the other cat girls? I think a bit of a missed opportunity there, both for the cat character and for a more plausible story arc
